Last Monday, we had to say our fond farewells to Grecia! She went back to El Salvador after a two-month long experience in New York City.
She stayed with us in Harlem and worked hard for us in the office! Thanks to our interconnected world, she could keep checking in with all our participants in El Salvador on their progress, while at the same time venturing into our projects in the US. She helped us with the January World Peace Leadership Program, making sure that everything ran smoothly and that everyone was well taken care of.
Grecia started volunteering for IBREA FOUNDATION in El Salvador over 3 years ago. One day, she showed up in our teachers’ class in San Salvador. We were surprised to see a 16-year old smiley freckled face among the crowd! Her mom, who works at the Ministry of Education, thought she could really benefit from the program. She was lacking motivation, felt disoriented and confused. Since that day, she has been with IBREA and has not wasted a day to develop her great potential. In 2014, she even joined us as we pioneered in Costa Rica.
Here is what she wants to share with you!
“I discovered with this program just how much potential I have and how much I can offer to the world. I realize that even the smallest actions I take will have an impact. If I just do my best and trust myself, anything I do can create change. I trained my heart and mind, as well as my gut and body, and I developed the courage to try many things that I’ve never done before. I learned that if you just try and have the courage to do something, then you will realize that nothing is fixed and you can do many things in many different ways to get the results that you want.”
We hope she can be an inspiration to all of you.
Thank you so much for your support to our project in El Salvador always. Grecia's participation in our annual World Peace Leadership program in New York was very meaningful. It helped her open her mind and fill herself with energy to do wider and deeper work with our current and future participants in El Salvador.
More soon on what that 2017 brings to El Salvador! We are working on a campaign on "Mental Wellbeing for Families" to support our students and teachers' families to keep up with their own holistic training and grow healthier, happier and more peaceful together as a community.
