Project Report | Aug 22, 2016
Youth Mental Wellbeing Conference at the UN

By Isabel Pastor Guzman | Project Leader

Grecia and Laura participated in our recent World Peace Leadership program, and represented El Salvador at our Youth Mental Wellbeing Conference at the United Nations.

Laura has been participating in our program in El Salvador since 2011. Since then, she maintains a strong mindset and will to keep overcoming obstacles and grow. You can see more details about her story in our project "Send Laura to College". Grecia, a student at the National University of El Salvador, has been receiving our program since 2013 and has been volunteering for us since then. At the young age of 18, she takes care of many of our teacher participants in El Salvador, communicates with government counterparts, and helped start up our program in Costa Rica in 2014.

They are both exemplary students of our program and an inspiration to other young participants from around the world. As such, they took part in our World Peace Leadership program this past July 30th to August 5th, and developed their leadership skills at the global level.

Laura also provided her testimony at the United Nations ECOSOC Chamber on August 3rd. In a room packed with over 600 people, including many NYU and Columbia University students, she shared her story of determination and strength growing up in one of the poorest and most violent areas of San Salvador, and making it to University. She stood proud as a living example of the power of mental wellbeing and positivity.

IBREA recently signed the extension of its Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of El Salvador and plans many activities from August to December 2016 in the country. We'll keep you posted!

Thank you always for your support to our program in El Salvador.
