As we head into this new year and a new normal since the break of Covid-19, we are preparing our work space to be safe for everyone and getting the team ready for face to face activities once again.

Let us remind you that during 2020 schools in Argentina where closed, those kids and youngsters that had access to internet and devices could at least follow some online classes, but for the majority it was a missed year. And not just on the “lost knowledge” but mainly on the social and human consequences of being isolated. So we are all looking forward for this new start.

Also, during the second half of 2020 we started a transition process, looking at 2021 (and beyond), researching innovative ideas to put in place and keep on preparing the next generations of young city makers. Some ideas are now ready to roll, we will be providing new activities, a fresher look on what technology can do to improve our life’s and how to learn in fun and meaningful ways to code.

It’s time for showtime. It is time to put in practice everything we have been preaching and working for years: being good at uncertainty, building trust and confidence we need in societies to go through this with the less impact possible, realizing that we are all connected and we need each other.

Thanks for your support in this difficult moment, stay strong and take care of your beloved ones and your community.

Happy times when we could meet face to face
Happy times when we could meet face to face

There are a lot of problems in the world. And COVID19 is making everything more complex. But looking everything with a negativity bias will hold us back. There is also a lot of good happening and we should not miss it. People are helping each other, giving a hand where they can, offering support and ideas. Of all the species in in the world, we are the only ones with the capacity to take care of all the rest. We humans are capable of amazing things, and we should be kind to ourselves and others if we want to create something better. We should remind us -and others- that we can do great things. All of us.

Of course it's a challenge, but this is a richer way to live. What are we doing to make things better, day to day? In your case, with your donations, you are supporting our amazing team and youngsters to have better opportunities.

Speaking of our team, they are working hard for youngsters in Rosario. Facing all imaginable challenges regarding the ongoing lock down since march, however we keep on providing virtual support and programs to our participants and food assistance to the most vulnerable families. Also, we started to work on a transition process looking at 2021 (and beyond), researching innovative ideas to put in place and keep on preparing the next generations of young city makers.

And regarding the future, in this case, the near future, #GivingTuesday is around the corner, it is a global movement that encourages people to give to their favorite causes all around the world. This year we want to really make it count, and we are getting help for that. Followers, supporters and fans are organizing their own fundraising campaigns to support our programs, and there are having fun in the process too (not less important)! If you want to join the movement, drop us a message on social media or to info@eldesafio.org and we can help you to plan your own initiative.

Argentina was no exception and Covid-19 forced the government to declare a total lock down- that is still going- after more than 100 days. This situation means crisis in an already critic economic and social system, making inequalities even bigger and affecting those living in poverty even more than anyone else.

Our team worked harder than ever to find creative ways to connect and inspire our participants to navigate through these difficult times, kept in touch with all the families and evaluated their needs in order to step-up and help in ways we never did before by providing food and hygiene products.

Internet accessibility is completely challenging for our participants, very few of them have quality internet connections and devices, most of them share their families cell phones with the network provided by the phone carrier, so we needed to work virtually but adapting the fun activities that we created to the off- line world, so that it was something for the whole family to share.

This global crisis is forcing all of us to continue to be good at uncertainty, be creative and for those of us who are in a good place, help those around us. During this time we lost some permanent donors, but fortunately many other could help a little more, so that we could continue to make a positive impact in the community.

Thank you so much for your continuous support now and always, stay strong, stay safe and take care of your beloved ones and your community.

As many other countries in the world, Argentina is getting ready for the corona virus peak in the coming months. Schools didn't start their classes and restrictions for moving around the city are getting stronger every day. It is more than possible that in the coming days the national government will declare a total lock down. As you can imagine, this has affected all our activities and put on stand by our programs with the community.

However, we are adapting to this situation and developing ideas to get in contact with our participants by phone and digital networks in order to help out were possible and making sure everyone can get the services they need. We are also working with the city goverment and other organizations sharing information, mediating and putting on the spotlight problems that our kids and their families faces. In this crisis one of the most vulnerable group are those living in extreme poverty conditions.

But we keep on going, adapting and being resilient in difficult times for the world planet. It is time to put in practice everything we have been preaching and working for years: being good at uncertainty, building trust and condifence we need in societies to go trough this with the less impact possible, realizing that we are all connected and we need each other. These are times to reflect on what kind of world we want to live in and to value things we took for granted. Let's learn together and create the best version of ourselves. From all species living in planet earth, we are the only one with the capacity to take of all the others (including ourselves), and that's great. Let's be great, then.

Thanks for your support in this difficult moment, stay strong and take care of your beloved ones and your community.

As a new year is coming to an end, we wanted to share what we’ve been doing the past months. During september, El Desafío had the 6th Happy Cities Festival, where we discuss how cities act as the perfect platform for social and economic development.

In terms of our coding program, kids continued to work on coding and robotics, the Festival was a great spark for the participants to think about what their ideal city should have, and worked on it through gaming – and virtual simulators.  They also created robotics hands and discussed potential uses for them.

For the final class of 2019, we invited families to be a part of the class, they played together with some of the kids creations, such as the automatic plant watering system and the electric guitar.

It was definitely a year filled with new experiences, lots of knowledge and we are looking forward for an even better 2020, and for that, please remember that there are still some more days left of this Year’s end campaign, we haven’t reached our goal yet, but with you help and continuous support we are sure we will get there soon!

As always, thanks for your support, and please continue to follow us through our social media accounts - Facebook - Twitter & Instagram
