We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our esteemed donors for the endless support and donation towards our projects especially treating malnourished children in Eastern region and Uganda at large. With the help of your donations, we have been able to give lives back to the malnourished children in uganda.
Malnutrition is one of the common problems that affect most children here in eastern Uganda. This is due to the high poverty levels and we are in the second wave of covid 19 lockdown where inter district lockdown is implimented as parents are not able to work and provide for their families.
Weakening of the immune system and increasing the susceptibility of the body to infections are some of the ways malnutrition affects the health of children. We receive many cases of malnutrition with complications of oedema, Dematorsis, pulmonary tuberculosis. Most of these children require chest x-rays before admission to rule out the possibility of Tuberculosis. However parents cannot afford even to pay for the x-rays.
A case in point is a mother (Mama Brielle) who read about how we help the malnourished in the region, the mother travelled from a far district (Mbale) to reach out to us since she had moved to almost every hospital she knew about be it private or government but with no change in the baby's health. she contacted us through facebook and got our address on reaching here she got the best services she had never received and within a week her baby had picked up and left happy with the baby looking so healthy. We were able to avail her with the nutritional rehabilition tips, foods and how to feed the baby.
As you very well know most of the malnourished cases take long period to get better so they stay longer in wards than other diseases which makes it costly.
For the past three months, whispers has had a total of 117 children in nutrition ward who were all treated free and this involves chest X-rays of each and every patient admitted in our nutrition to rule out PTB (Pulmonary Tuberculosis) which is costly and we usually send them to another facility to do the chest Xray since we do not have the machine yet at our facility.
The fact that the number of nutritional cases keep increasing in our hospital day in day out, and we are still a small hospital (space wise) we managed to even swap wards with our Annex ward so that the bigger ward is given to nutrition because nutrition cases needs to be in a spacious enough room.
We therefore can not thank you enough for your continuous donations made towards this project. With your help we are committed to making a difference in the lives of children in Eastern region and Uganda at large!
We are so appreciative!
