Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your continued support of this project. We strongly believe that improving the socio-economic status of women in the developing world is key to fighting and ending global poverty. Women in the rural areas of Zimbabwe bear almost all responsibility for meeting the basic needs of the family yet they are disadvantaged economically and educationally and are systematically denied the resources, information and freedom of action they need to fulfill this responsibility. This situation has been exacerbated by HIV/AIDS which has rapidly become a woman's disease. Women living with AIDS are struggling to support their children and they cant afford the cost of receiving treatment.
Our vision is to restore dignity and hope to disadvantaged women in these rural areas and to to empower them to live up to their full potential. We firmly believe that empowering women strengthens the entire community. Families are healthier and more children attend school.
We are pleased to announce that the "Chicken Project" is a big sucess. The lives of the six women who are participating in this project have been transformed. We are very pleased to have Mrs Chikoo managing this project for us. We attribute the success of this project to her dedication and hard work in overseeing the project. One of the biggest lessons we have learned is that inorder for these projects to be successfull it is very important to have the right person managing the projects. The project manager needs to be a respected member of the community who is passionate about projects that empower women. Mrs Chikoo has all these qualities and we are honored to have her manage this project for us.
The women ordered their next batch of chickens. I will post a progress report in 3 weeks. You will be able to see the pictures of the chickens.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you for supporting this project. Together we are transforming the lives of these women and putting them in a better position to help their families. We couldnt have done this without your help!
Best wishes,
Thelma
