We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to you for your continued support of this project. Together we are transforming the lives of disadvantaged rural women. We coudnt have done it without your help!
Women are the lynchpins of their communities and yet the vast majority of rural women are disadvantaged educationally and economically. Through our Homestead Project we are committed to lifting disadvantaged rural women out of poverty by providing them the opportunity to build lives of self-reliance and dignity. Our goal for this project is to address the basic human needs such as, food, water and shelter while helping poor women start income generating projects. This holistic approach ensures that disadvantaged rural women and their families have proper shelter and enough food to eat and they dont have to rely on outside help in perpetuity. According to studies done on sustainable development, women invest 90% of their income back into their families, compared to the 35% invested by men. The following are some of the positive outcomes that are linked to improving the socio-economic status of women:
In keeping with the focus of this project we have goat, pig and chicken rearing projects currently underway. As you can see from these pictures the projects are a success. We donated $150.00 to the goat project. Nine women participate in this project. With this money they were able to purchase 10 more goats @ $15 a goat. The women work collectively to take care of the goats. Last year, they built a pen for the goats. We also donated $150.00 to the pig project. The women bought 8 additional pigs and the rest of the funds were used to buy materials required to construct a pig sty.

"Thank you so much for supporting our pig project. We now have 11 pigs and 6 piglets. We are really excited about this project as we will be able to sell the pigs ans use the money to buy food for our children."
Another major challenge that women living in the rural areas are faced with is the scarcity of firewood. In these rural areas firewood is the main source of energy for cooking and for providing warmth during the winter season. We have partnered with a local organization called Kuhlubuka that manufactures environmentally friendly stoves. Through the Homestead Project we distributed 5 environmentally friendly stoves @ $50 each to five women. You can see in the attached pictures the women receiving the stoves. Our caregivers also distributed 50 plastic wash basins, rice, beans and soap to women in Rimbi village.
Thanks again for the major role you are playing in lifting disadvantaged rural women out of poverty.
Best wishes,
Thelma
