Der Friends,

Thank you so much for your continued support of this project. We strongly believe that improving the socio-economic status of women in these rural areas is key to fighting and ending poverty. Women are the linchpins of their communities. When their livehoods are improved they can earn enough income and be in a better position to feed their families.

For the past eight years, through our Food and Clothing program, we have focused on sending food &clothing, medical supplies and many other much needed items to Zimbabwe. Every year we partner with New England Pentecostal ministries, missionaries and friends of the foundation in the United States to send a 40-foot container. These shipments have impacted the lives of many people in Chipinge. As you can see in the pictures, women and children are among the people who have benefited greatly from these shipments.

Though we help people with food and clothing during times of crisis, going forward our focus is on introducing income generating projects to empower disadvantaged rural women. In keeping with this focus, we introduced the mushroom project. As I mentioned in a previous email, mushrooms require a lot of water. Inorder for this project to succeed we need to dig a borehole. Unfortunately we havent raised enough money to be able to dig the borehole.

We conferred with village community leaders to discuss viable projects we can launch to empower disadvantaged women. The community leaders recommended a Chicken Raising project.

Chicken Raising Project - Phase I

  • We have identify the project coordinator from the village who will manage the project for us.
  • With the money we have raised we will sponsor six women in the village to start chicken raising at their homes. The project coordinator will meet with the community leaders to identify the six women who will receive the chicks
  • We have identified a company in Chipinge where we will order the baby chicks

We are excited about the chicken raising project. Without your support this would not be possible. Thank you so much for caring about women empowerment.  Within the next three weeks I will post pictures on this site so that you will be able to see the faces of the women you are helping.

Thanks again!

Best wishes,

Thelma
