Muthu (name changed) is 13 years old and is studying in our special school for child labourers in Malayappapuram. Muthu's father died in an accident when his mother mother was pregnant. After a few months his pregnant mother too died because of malnourishment. Muthu has 6 elder brothers. 5 of his illiterate brothers have to live in different places after the parents' death to earn for their living. Muthu and his immediate brother stay in their aunt's house and are attending our special school.
Muthu's uncle is an auto rickshaw driver. His aunty is selling flowers. Muthu was selling flowers with his aunt when the special school teacher met him. Now he is in 5th standard. He is talented in sports and poem writing. He wants to become a pilot in the future.
Muthu got prize for running in the competitions conducted on 14th November 2017 in the Children's Day Celebrations held at Kodiyampalayam special school. Children from four of our special schools participated in the program. Sports and drawing competitions were conducted for the children and prizes given to motivate them. Lions Club of Musiri donated writing materials to the children.
On 7th December, "Nila Palli" an awareness programme on evils of child labour was conducted in Malayappapuram special school. Cultural events were conducted to speak about the importance of education. Sudha an ex child labour who is studying in 9th standard gave a motivational speech.
