Malathi (name changed) is doing her B.A. She is the first graduate in her home and is one of the beneficiaries selected for educational support from New Life. She is from a very poor family which depends on mat weaving. Malathi's mother accompanied her while receiving the support. Everyone gathered in the hall was moved to see the tears flowing down Malathi's and her mother's cheeks when receiving the support. Malathi said,"I never believed that I can continue my studies and can do my preferred course. I was a child labour working in the mat weaving industry. My family is very poor. My brother and myself worked in the nearby mat weaving centre. One fine morning my special school teacher met me on my way to work and asked where I am studying. I told him that I am working and I could not continue my studies due to my poor family background. He then met my parents and asked them to send me and my brother to the special school run by New Life. In the beginning they refused. But with the perseverance of our loving teacher, they had to accept and they were also happy that we can also get a meal there. From then on my study is continuing without interruption and thanks to you dear donors for supporting us financially through New Life. I will be grateful for this till my life".
During this quarter we received $948.30 and we spent $1846 ($1=INR65) in this quarter to support 12 children. $406.15 was spent for taking 68 children on exposure trip. We now have balance funds to support 5 children. The organisation is aiming to provide education support to 25 children during the Silver Jubilee of our organisation in June. For this we need you donors to donate an additional $3040(excluding $300 donations made and yet to be received). We can together do this by spreading words through social media. Spread the message to the people in your network and motivate them to donate dear donors. Yes, we can achieve this, with your support.
So many exciting things happened during this quarter in our special school. To begin with the children were taken on an exposure trip to Yercaud on 22nd January where they visited the Botanical Garden, the Big Lake, Shevaroy Temple, Pagoda Point, Rose Garden and Anna Park.
On 26th January the special school children in Kajapet celebrated the Republic Day with their brethern in the early learning centre and the coaching class of New Life.
An awareness programme on child sexual abuse was conducted on 24.02.2017. at Naadaar Chathiram Aided School for the special school (for child labourers) children of New Life and the Aided School's students. The programme was conducted in coordination with the Young Indians, Trichy Chapter and Lions Club of Metropolitan, Trichy.
On March 3rd Nila Palli, a special cultural programme to bring awareness on child labour was conducted in Kajapet.
The International Women's Day was celebrated on 10th March 2017 in the New Life Office. Fun Games and cultural events were conducted to bring out the talents of the women. Motivational speeches were given by the chief guest (an Entrepreneur and Social Worker), by the President and by the Secretary of New Life. Prizes were given to the winners of the games. Educational support was also given to children (once upon child labourers) who are pursuing their higher studies.
Thank you dear donors for making this happen. We assure you we will meet you in the next report with many more good news.
With regards
