Rescue Families From Acute Hunger in Karamoja

For a family experiencing hunger, tomorrow can feel uncertain. Parents may wake up without knowing how they will provide the next meal for their children. In communities already facing poverty and limited livelihood opportunities, food insecurity can quickly become a crisis.

Karamoja is facing a serious food and nutrition challenge. The latest 2026 IPC assessment reports that 473,000 people in Karamoja are facing Crisis or Emergency levels of acute food insecurity, representing approximately 32% of the analysed population.

Children are particularly vulnerable. Approximately 122,100 children aged 6–59 months are projected to face acute malnutrition, including around 30,600 children with severe acute malnutrition during the March 2026–February 2027 period.

Behind every statistic is a family that needs support.

Karamoja is currently experiencing severe food insecurity, with approximately 473,000 people facing Crisis or Emergency levels of acute food insecurity.

The latest evidence also shows a major burden of acute malnutrition among young children, with approximately 122,100 children aged 6–59 months projected to require treatment, including about 30,600 severe cases.
