Nandri recognises the importance of financially supporting the entire family so the girls can stay in education. If the family cannot afford enough food to eat, educating their children is not their priority. We, through our Nandri groups, give the mothers loans to start their own small business. A condition of the loan is that their children must remain in education so enabling them to feed their families and also keep their children in school.
Education of girls is of low importance in Dalit communities. Often girls are taken out of school to help their mothers at home or to earn a meagre amount of money in the fields. Nandri insists that the girls get the same educational opportunities as boys, giving them equal chance of a successful career. If the mothers need further financial help supporting their children in school or college Nandri will facilitate this. Through Nandris educational loans we have helped hundreds of students achieve the impossible dream of a 3rd level education and a fulfilling and high earning career.
Recently Nandri supported 12 families at Irudayapuram Village, providing them with micro loans, so ensuring their children's education. Nandri also provides emergency help to mothers in need. One mother had lost her husband, the only wage earner and another mothers home had been destroyed by fire. Helping these families get back on their feet also secures the future of their children and renews their hopes and dreams of a better future through education.
We thank you, all our Nandri donors for making our work possible. Your wonderful generosity changes the lives of these girls for ever.
