“Education for all” is the moto of The Right to Education Act. In spite of the efforts of the government to improve the education system, the future for poor Dalit girls is still very bleak. They are oppressed by the upper castes and even their own families treat girls as being lower class than boys. Girls are often withdrawn from education at a very young age to either work in the home looking after younger siblings, as the parents go out to earn a living or they have to take on the lowest jobs in society, such as toilet cleaning or scavenging.
Without education, these girls have no hope for the future. Nandri changes their lives, supporting them and giving them an education and a bright future where anything is possible. Instead of cleaning toilets, our girls are becoming teachers, doctors and engineers amongst many other careers. With your help Nandri can transform the lives of our girls forever. In the past three months Nandri has supported 37 girls to help them continue their education at the cost of €16,938. “Nandri” means thank you and to all our sponsors, from all the girls you have helped, we say a very big nandri.
Jeevajothi is from a small rural village. Her father is diabetic and unable to work and her mother makes a little money from sewing. Nandri heard of their plight and lent them the money to buy a cow which has generated an income for the family. Jeevajothi had been taken out of school after 10th grade due to the familys lack of money and was helping at home for two years. With Nandri’s financial aid, she returned to education and now is completing her first year in Engineering College. She has a bright and promising future ahead of her. Jeevajothi could never have dreamed of college but Nandri made an impossible dream come true.
