Education is considered an important instrument to bring social change and introduce economic transformation in our country. It is a vital factor leading India in its path towards development, social advancement and economic betterment for our country as a whole and our poorest people. UDHR has declared that education is not only a national but also an international birthright of every child.
India, the largest democracy of the world, unfortunately has the largest number of underprivileged sectors who are deprived of education. This is caused by the on going inequalities in Indian society, i.e. caste, class, and gender. The lowest caste girls traditionally are removed from education when they are very young to mind younger children and help in the home. This locks them into a cycle of poverty and lack of opportunities. The majority of people in our country do not think it is ridiculous that the Indian Goddess of learning is a woman but yet the girl child in their household continues to hold a broom instead of a book in her hand.
In order to change this acceptance of lower caste girls being deprived of their right to an education, Nandri sponsors and financially supports the children of our families to continue their education through Secondary level and on to University, giving them a bright and brilliant future full of possibilities. With a University degree these children can have meaningful careers, earn money to both enrich their own lives and that of their poor families from the Dalit Community.
a. Education brings a smile to Shalini
Shalini is from a village in the Tiruvannamalai district. Her father is working as a collie. Her mother is looking after the cow at home which was bought with the financial assistance given by Nandri. Her elder brother is working as a laborer in one of the stores. With the meager income, the family found it impossible to afford to educate Shalini. Now with the support given by Nandri, she is doing her first year in Bachelor of Nursing in Lakshmi Nursing College. She is so grateful to Nandri for giving her this chance to have a fulfilling career and a bright future.
b.Educational support gives a future to Jasmine
Jasmine is from the Tiruvannamalai district. Her father is an alcoholic and is incapable of supporting his family. She is the last child in the family and because of the lack of financial support Jasmine was planning to discontinue her studies. Nandri stepped in and with their help she is now doing her Post Graduate ( M.Sc) in Science in Sishya College in Tiruvannamalai. She is overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity she has been given by Nandri.
c.Educational support means everything to Sneha and her family
Sneha is from a small rural village and has one younger sister. Her father has been very ill and is having ongoing treatment. The entire family spends all their income struggling to pay the medical bills. Her mother is working as a collie in agriculture so her wages are very small. There was no possibility of Sneha being able to continue her education until Nandri stepped in. Nandri has provided financial support and now she is enrolled in Loyola College in Vettavalam and doing her first year in Commerce. The whole family is very grateful to Nandri as when she graduates, Sneha will earn a good salary and be able to help support her family and her fathers medical treatment.
