Senior Female Teacher at the meeting

The weekly review meetings at Kole Intellectual Forum (KIFA) that are always conducted by the students and at least one or two member(s) of the staff of the organization since January 2021; they have found it out that the concept is very important, because the concept tends to address actions, items, roadblocks, and questions from the upcoming weeks or barriers from the previous weeks. These regular meetings that are always being held at the Institute according to one of the staff, he observed that, the meetings have made a number of tremendous progresses at the Institute in term of learning, building unity, relationships among students and staff and the community at large

He further revealed that: because of those meetings, the organization has:

  • Reviewed Bigger Plans those are expected to be used for years.
  • Made a list of every little thing they need and want to get done in one week to those of other weeks
  • Set up priorities
  • Designed  Action Steps, and
  • Made up Schedule to perform.

In the photo above are those of the students with  senior female teacher in for the review meeting on Tuesday 2/3/2021.

The Girls show respect to the elderly
The Girls show respect to the elderly

On the basis of three types of discipline; that is, Preventative Discipline, Supportive Discipline and Corrective Discipline; as a set of principles designed and being trained with the girls at Home Economics Institute of Kole Intellectual Forum under child development course unit. The organization (Kole Intellectual Forum) is focusing at these principles as most important personality traits that every girl should greatly exhibit to establish their inner strength and character on their daily life and is expected to help them to complete their tasks within any given fixed deadline; and more importantly it is also assumed to set orderliness, efficiency, and punctuality at organization as well as getting them prepare to meet the world’s future challenges in their different homes.

On the other hand, Discipline is also expected to provide people with rules to live their lives efficiently and effectively. When you have discipline in your life, they (Institute) constituted that: you can make small sacrifices in the present for a better life in the future. Discipline creates habits, habits make routines, and routines become who you are on the daily basis.

From the photos above, is showing the girls exhibiting high level of discipline to one of their parents that made a courtesy call at the Institute to verify their learning progress. Kneeling down that they are doing is one way that African women and girls show respect to the elderly and is part of the discipline that is always displayed at Kole Intellectual Forum

Girls & Community at the Borehole after repair
Girls & Community at the Borehole after repair

Kole Intellectual Forum is a local non-profit group (CBO) that works closely with the community where it operates to generate improvements within a community when considering that: their Community Problems is their a CBO's Problems. The organization since its establishment in 2016; the organization is basically in one way or another looking keenly to see that any community problem that is within their capacity to handle; they always try their best to support that community problem.

For instance, when the bore hole their students of Home Economics share with the community got spoil without proper arrangement to see it being repaired; the administration could not bear to see that the share problem of the community and their students stay without proper answer. The organization took over and repaired the bole hole in question with the intention of mobilizing the community and makes them to elect their water users community to manage their water system.

With the overall increase in number of diseases across the global including the upcoming new diseases like COVID-19 and Ebola; to help the girls at Home Economics of Kole Intellectual Forum boost their health and to avoid surprise attack from the suspected common diseases that are always expected to attack girls and women; Kole Intellectual Forum is one such organizations across the Global that is trying its best to create a lively and a healthy environment to the girls they are training in Home Economics with support from the Crowd fundraising platform of GlobalGiving.

Following the fund they are receiving from the platform on the monthly basis, the organization through the decision of their members of Board has made it a point that part of the fund allocated purposely for girls’ health, is used in examining a number of medical conditions that are of great concern to girls; and, this was done at Siddonia Medical Clinic that is situated near their office at Corner Molem at Aboke Sub-County, Kole District, Northern Uganda; the medical conditions examined included among others, the:  heart disease, breast cancer, osteoporosis, depression, autoimmune diseases, state of pregnancy, and sexuality transmitted diseases.

Although issues that involve health matters are confidential; on the other hand we are grateful to report that none of our student has been found to be a victim to our expectation; and this has given us the strength to know the status of our children. According to the organizational administration, they observed that: they now know the status of their children and because of that, they will put much effort  to mentor them for a greater future

One of the Instructor narrated her success story
One of the Instructor narrated her success story

Instructor Julie (not her name) is one of the instructors recruited at Kole Intellectual Forum in 2020 at Institute of Home Economics to handle one of the Course Units in the name of Textile &Tailoring. When she was interviewed by the penal of members of Board with the intention of renewing her 3 months of orientation; Julie accepted to take up another 6 months of contract and continued to say, if permitted after that, she will be able to accept the appointment as a full time employee of the organization; given the level of professionalism the team at the organization are exhibiting; sighting at closely followed organizational code of conduct, financial management policy, human resource policy, 5 years’ organizational development strategic plan among others.

In her three months’ tenancy at the organization, Julie claimed to have been very successful because of support she was getting from the organization and the students that made her to perform her duties to her expectations and that of the organization. To her, successes of anyone or an organization, she explained, is not the effort of one person, but a combination of many and she is grateful that: young as she is, and having worked in other two places before she joined institute of Home Economics of Kole Intellectual Forum; she can learnt from her past experience that, she is now successful at Kole Intellectual Forum because the organization has managed to put up a system in place.
