Surgeries and Medical Care for Moldovan Children

Dear friends, thanks to your continuing support, we raised about $550 in March - June. This money was used to pay for treatment therapy for Nazar O. who is only two months. The happiest event for each loving couple is birth of their child. Oros family dreamed about boy and he came to this world on April 28th 2015. He was named Nazar. But, his birth became an ordeal for the parents. It turned out that so much expected child was very ill. After the examinations, the doctors set the diagnosis: Taussig-Bing anomaly, which means that the child had switched blood vessels, if simply said. Such heart malformation can be solved only through operation. Moldovan doctors could not help Nazar. We helped sent Nazar to the Cardiologic Center in Kiev, where he has been operated. The operation was successful. Now he is at home, feels good. He is all smiles, happy and active child now with a healthy heart. Thank you for your great commitment and ongoing support!

In February 2015, we had a privilege to host Kelly Zug, a GlobalGiving's in-the-field representative.

During Kelly's stay, we visited two children's hospitals: the Children's Hematology department at the Institute of Oncology and the Burns Center at the Emilian Cotaga Children's Hospital in Chisinau. 

The Children's Hematology department is one of the children's hospitals we work with in Moldovan capital. This department is the only pediatric cancer center in Moldova that works with children with leukemia and other blood cancers. Dr. Irina Plaschevici, the Head of the Department offered a tour of the facility and introduced us to the children and parents who stayed there. The department has room for about 30 children and their parents who come from all parts of the country. As the chief physician, Dr. Plaschevici, along with dedicated team of medical professionals, is often going to her limits to improve conditions in the department and make children's stay less stressful. The low budget is not enough to sufficiently care for all children, there is a lack of treatment rooms and the medication is insufficient. The Children's Hematology department has been focus of our attention since our beginning on GlobalGiving: Support Moldovan Children With Cancer. Thanks to your support, Save Life was able to provide some advanced equipment for the department, as well as some of the treatments for the children. Our work with the department continues through this project.

At the same day, we took Kelly to the Burns Center at the Emilian Cotaga children's hospital, another facility in Moldovan capital of Chisinau supported by Save Life. We went for a tour of the rooms to greet the children and their parents. About 20 children from different parts of Moldova are treated from the burns at the department. Many houses in the Moldovan countryside do not have access to running water, so the families must boil large quantities of water in order to cook or clean. This process can easily lead to accidents if children knock the tubs of hot water over. About 80% of the children at the Burns Center are coming from the low-income and disadvantaged families. Save Life has been assisting in many of the treatments of these children and our work will continue in the future. 

Our assistance to the children would not have been possible without your support. Your donations, shares on social media and simple words of encouragement inspire us and transcend through our service. Your continuous support also lets us to expand our programming to meet increasing needs of the other children's departments. At this time, we are collecting funds for the endoscopy center at the Center of Children and Maternal Health in Chisinau. The center needs an advanced medical equipment to perform surgeries in children with esophageal atresia or rupture of esophagus. These cases are frequent and range from the birth defects to accidents involving children who got injured from swallowing of small or sharp objects. The medical equipment will let doctors perform surgeries in Moldova, while children will stay close to their homes. Please stay tuned for more updates in our next reports and thank you once again for your support!
