Project Report | Mar 9, 2021
COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the selection process of deserving students.

By Jerome Kabakyenga | Project Leader

The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic brought about closure of institutions in most countries globally now for a whole year. In Uganda the varous trainning institutions are being opened in a a phased manner starting with candidate/finalist classes. Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation supports students who are enrolled for programmes in Nursing and Midwifely at Mayanja Memorial Medical Training Institute in Mbarara City of South-Western Uganda. The Institute is currently hosting continuing students in their final semester and will be receiving new students in 2 weeks time. The process of selecting students to benefit from funds received from GlobalGiving was interrupted by the pandemic. We plan to start the exercise of identifying students to benefit from GlobalGiving Support as soon as most of the students are at the institute. The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the incomes of households of most families and this will lead to many students failing to complete their programmes due to financial constraints.

The Foundation extends thanks to the GlobalGiving Family for all the support extended to needy students in enabling them to earn a certificate.
