More support for the needy students is welcome
By Jerome Kabakyenga | Project Leader
Nursing and Midwifery students are currently sitting the end second semester national examinations. Some of these students are faced with the challenge of meeting tuition costs for their studies. To some needy continuing students they may not be able to continue their studies next academic year if they do not get some form of sponsorship. To some of these their parents/guardians may be forced to sell part of their family asset (usually land) to meet the cost of the training.
We thank the GlobalGiving community for the support given to Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation so far and this support has helped a number of students to get national certification in nursing/midwifely. The number of applications by needy students for support is still high. We call on all those who are able to support this cause not to tire. Your support is welcome.

Demand for support for needy students to earn a certification in Nursing still high
By Jerome Kabakyenga | Project Leader
Since 2011, with financial support from GlobalGiving, Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation has supported more than 20 students to get a certifications in Nursing. These Ugandans are working in various health institutions in the country and have contributed to the welfare of their families and country. Mayanja Memorial Medical Training Institute has a student population of about 800 and about 5% of them are not able to meet the tuition fees. A number of them drop out from the programme or their parents are forced to sell off the only remaining family property such as land.
In the last one month the Uganda Certificate Examination (UCE) results (ordinary level) were published. The Foundation is receiving a number of UCE certificate holders looking for financial support to enable them enroll for a nusing course at Mayanja Memorial Medical Training Institute.
The Foundation extends thanks and appreciation to all the GlobalGiving Donors for the support to the cause since 2011. We still call upon GlobalGiving Community to continue supporting the needy student to earn certifications in Nursing. The Foundation calls for more support.

The function was held at the campus of Mayanja Memorial Training Institute in Mbarara Municilpality, Uganda.
The four graduated with Enrolment Certificates in either General Nursing or Midwifely. They are employed in public or private institutions. This employment was made possible because of posession of the relevant certificates in Nursing or Midwifely. They express appreciation to Global Giving for having supported them in their training. Individual stories to follow in subsequent reports.
