Still recovering from COVID effects and new challenges
By Jerome Kabakyenga | Project Leader
Dear GlobalGiving Family,
Greetings from Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The past 3 years have been a challenge to the Foundation due to the disruptions brought about by the COVID19 pandemic. The Russia-Ukraine war has made the situation worse with costs of fuel raising exponentially. As if that was not bad enough in Uganda we are faced with an Ebola Outbreak which threatens to send us into more lockdowns.
The Foundation continue to receive requests from nursing students for financial assistance to clear college dues. In the meantime we receive positive feedback from former students who received financial support from GlobalGiving that enabled them to complete their programmes. We shall be reporting some of their stories in the coming reports.
We extend our thanks to GlobalGiving for all the continued support.

Another student supported

Greetngs to GlobalGiving Family
The world has faced major challenges during the past 2 years and 3 months. The 2020-21 period was marked with lockdowns due to COVID 19 pandemic everywhere. As the world was emerging from the suffocating lockdowns the Russia-Ukraine war has had effect on the already weakened economies. The economies of low income countries such as Uganda have been hit hard as prices of most commodities are up.
At Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation we have noticed an increase in the number of students at Mayanja Memorial Medical Training Institute requesting for financial support to meet the costs of fees. One such student was to miss registering with the national examination board and this would imply that she was to miss the final semester examinations. But with the funds from GlobalGiving the Foundation supported the student by paying the student's fees. The student was able to sit for her final examinations. The examination results are expected in the coming 3 months.
The Foundation extends thanks to GlobalGiving Donors for the generous support.

Education Institutions now fully open
By Jerome Kabakyenga | Project Leader
Greetings to GlobalGiving Family
The Economy in Uganda was fully opened in January 2022. Consequently all education Institutions are now open. Mayanja Memorial Medical Training Institute that serves as a host of GlobalGiving sponsored students is now fully open. Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation has identified 6 students pursuring a certificate in nursing to benefit from the scholarship fund. The foundation advertised the scholarships in the Institute and 30 students applied. Interviews were conducted and the 6 were selected. The criteria for selection was based on 2 aspects: 1) coming from a poor background and therefore having difficulty in paying tuition obligations 2) academic performance whereby those with better performances were selected. It is hoped that the selected students will be enabled to complete their progammes and be able to earn a certificate in nursing. Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation extends thanks ang appreciation to all the donors for the helping hand.
