A different Christmas
By Daniela Sepulveda | Coordinator of the childhood cancer program

Spending Christmas in the hospital isn't easy. Children want to be home and share time with their families, away from the worries about their health. At the Foundation, we know how challenging this is for parents too, which is why we provide support and various activities aimed at improving the emotional well-being of children and families. Ema is 8 years old and was diagnosed with acute leukemia. She and her mother love Christmas, and this year, for the first time, they had to experience it away from home because of her treatment. Our psycho-oncologist, Daniela, brought materials and got to work with Ema to make a Christmas tree out of recycled materials. Every morning, Ema woke up motivated to finish her tree, which strengthened her bond with the psychologist, as well as with her parents and her doctor, since it increased verbal communication and interaction with everyone. The result made Ema very happy; having her own finished tree made her think that this Christmas would be different, but not necessarily sad.

With your contribution, we can help more children with cancer!
We are just a few months away from the end of the year, and we are very happy to continue supporting children with cancer and their parents. We are certain that our work has a positive influence on the emotional state of hospitalized children, because when we enter each room, some children greet us with a hug, smile, open their hearts to share with us, and when we say goodbye, they ask us, “When are you coming back?” These actions speak to us of the humane and loving work we do. Alejandra is one of the girls recently diagnosed with acute leukemia. She is only 2 years old. Julian is another recently diagnosed child. He is 5 years old. In both cases, there was sadness, irritability, poor appetite, and little interaction with the medical staff. Our psycho-oncologist Daniela encouraged them to paint on canvas and do playful activities to help them express their emotions. Play allowed them to communicate, move, and express their emotions more freely. Their parents are very grateful for the tools they received, which have undoubtedly been very useful in the process of adapting to their new health situation.
You can also contribute to initiatives like this one. What do you think of our work?

With your support we continue working for the welfare of children with cancer!
During the first months of the year we have welcomed new children to the Foundation. More than 30 children have been diagnosed with some type of childhood cancer, only in one of the hospitals in the capital city. Our mission is to accompany the children and their families, to give them emotional and social support, and to tell them that they are not alone in this process.
In the last few weeks, we have made several hospital rounds to talk to the parents and to listen to the children. We have also given them a painting kit and shared pleasant moments with them.
Very soon we will resume our educational sessions and support groups so that parents can feel comforted in the treatment process of their children. As a Foundation we are committed to their welfare.
Would you like to join this wonderful cause?
