Pooja is a young woman who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

I am Pooja from Nepal and currently, I have just finished my master's degree at the University of Sussex, UK. In 2018, I graduated from Asian University for Women with Politics, Philosophy and Economics degree in Bangladesh. I was actively involved in media and films. Therefore, I chose to study Media Practice for Development and Social Change as my master's degree in order to understand the media representations of minority groups and how to create positive digital representations of minorities.

During my masters, I have co-produced two short documentaries and currently, I am working on a photography project for my dissertation. In my free time, I like to create unique photographic concepts and make short films. I plan to work in a creative industry where I can tell untold stories of women and other minority groups.

I have been Wedu rising star since 2015 and I have been blessed with amazing mentors with whom I still keep in touch. Wedu mentorship creates a lifelong friendship that I am truly grateful for. I am glad that Wedu provided me with opportunities to be impacted by two brilliant mentors from different parts of the world.

Wedu's funding has helped me immensely to survive in the UK while I focus on my studies without worrying about financial issues. I have finished my Masters with Merit and I am so glad that Wedu helped to ease my financial burden.”

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Scholarship. Your contribution directly supports women like Pooja by allowing them to focus on their studies and follow their dreams to create positive social change. Thanks to you we have been able to raise a total of $5,500 in online donations to contribute towards scholarships, an amount that can provide financial support to more Rising Stars this year than ever before. Thank you again so much for your donation and we look forward to sending more exciting Rising Star updates and achievements in the coming months.

Thank you for helping our Rising Stars keep rising!

With gratitude,

Mahim is a young woman who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

"I am Mahim and I belong to a small village in Bangladesh.

It is not easy for a girl in our area to continue her higher studies. As I belong to a large family including my 6 sisters, the situation was more difficult for me. But I always wanted to continue my study and complete my higher education. The path was not easy for me.  But through my passion & hard work I always tried to make this path easier because I heartily believed the quote by Paulo Coelho “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. This belief helped me to continue my higher education. In 2015, I started my undergraduate degree at Asian University for Women (AUW) on Public Health with a full scholarship. Besides my studies, I am working as a peer tutor at the Science and Math Centre and I have also been working as a teaching assistant at AUW for one year.

It is my passion to work in public services and to do social work. I have worked for several organizations in the past. I have been volunteering at an organization in Bangladesh (Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar) since 2017 for disseminating menstrual hygiene related information to school-going boys & girls. I always like to explore my knowledge and engage myself more with public services. In the future, I would like to work in the epidemiological field.

I became a Wedu Rising Star around early 2018, and since then I have gotten many opportunities to enhance my leadership skills. I have received leadership training, mentorship and most recent funding for my exchange semester at Yonsei University in South Korea. Without Wedu, I would not have been able to come this far.”

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Scholarship. Your contribution directly supports women like Nak by allowing them to focus on their studies and follow their dreams to create positive social change. Nak is a young woman who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

“My name is Nak and I am from Cambodia.

Due to love, sympathy and understanding the importance of knowledge, income, and standards of living with dignity, I want and plan to become an expert in Economic, Social and Cultural Rights within the OHCHR. The current goal for now towards human rights is boosting Women’s Right to Education in Cambodia. I believe that through education, those women will be independent and be able to access the right they are entitled to. Through knowledge they obtain, they can dare to express their voices on what they need, and contribute to their communities and societies. I understand that improving Human Right to Education will boost women’s rights directly - economic right mainly and social rights potentially.

In order to achieve my goals as well as supporting other women in this field, I earned a bachelor degree in Law in an English language program of the Royal University of Law and Economics. Having known that higher education is needed for critical thinking and professionalism, I am pursuing a dual master degree in International and Public Law in a French program within the same university which Wedu’s funding helped me access.

My next and progressive plan is to write a book on my personal experiences in fighting against conventional thinking or mindset undermining women since I wish to share experiences and knowledge with them, inspire them, encourage them and lift them up. And Wedu Global is a significant part of my achievements and life. I have received leadership training, mentorship and funding for my master's degree in Cambodia. Without support from Wedu, I would not be able to see how far I can be like me today.”

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Scholarship. Your contribution directly supports women like Nak by allowing them to focus on their studies and follow their dreams to create positive social change. Thanks to you we have been able to raise a total of $5,400 total in online donations to contribute towards scholarships, an amount that can provide financial support to more Rising Stars this year than ever before. Thank you again so much for your donation and we look forward to sending more exciting Rising Star updates and achievements in coming months.

Pondchanok is a young woman who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

“My name is Pondchanok and I am a Thai citizen. I strongly believe that teaching is the most respectable profession in this world.

From the very beginning of my childhood, I always dreamed to be a good teacher and serve my nation for the better. Mathematics always attracted me and hence I pursued my bachelor degree in Actuarial Science from Mahidol University with the support from my Thai government student loan fund. Throughout my bachelor study, I served as a private tutor to support my personal expenses.

In 2017, I accomplished my master degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). This time, I got the RTG Fellowship from Thai Government. As I want to be a teacher, I wanted to continue my higher education after my master degree.

Finally, in 2018, I was accepted into the Doctoral program in Knowledge Management and Innovation Management at Bangkok University, Thailand and also as a candidate to be part of the dual degree program in Management at the University of Grenoble Alpes, France. This time, I discovered that managing funding for doctoral study is not only difficult but also a matter of luck.

I feel really lucky in this particular circumstance that I met with Wedu team in AIT during my Master study and I would like to express all of my gratitude to them for standing beside me during my critical time. This funding will not only help me to pursue my doctoral degree but also help me to develop my career as a good teacher to serve my nation.

Thank you to Wedu and my mentor from Wedu.”

Lucy, is a young woman who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship to fund her studies thanks to your help. This is her story:

“Having grown up with traditional values from a Chinese background in Indonesia, I never thought of pursuing graduate study abroad. Traditionally in my culture, a female shall marry, have children, and continue her family business. However, I believe that only education can change the destination of life and that education is the best investment.”

Lucy is a professional pharmacist from Indonesia currently pursuing her PhD in Applied Biosciences at Hokkaido University in Japan. Access to education was a real challenge for her, with financial and cultural constraints being large barriers to overcome. However, with perseverance, hard work and scholarship support, Lucy has been able to achieve her educational goals. Now as part of her research, she has uncovered the potential of bioactive compounds extracted from local medicinal plants in Indonesia for prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Lucy has been involved in numerous volunteer work including providing medical service during the Yogyakarta Earthquake in 2006. Her short term goal is to start Research Assistant work in the center of environmental health sciences. In the long term, she dreams of pursuing a professional university career and establishing a comprehensive community health center to provide medical care and sanitation education.

Thanks to your help, Wedu was able to provide Lucy with a scholarship to partially fund the final year of her PhD and help her achieve her goals.

Lucy is one of over 700 young women Wedu currently supports. We call these young women Rising Stars and support them through mentorship and funding to complete higher education and become changemakers in their communities. Each Rising Star is passionate about creating positive social change in her community and at Wedu, we believe that investing in women's leadership not only empowers women but also has a multiplier effect on improving the development of communities and countries as a whole.

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Scholarship. Your contribution directly supports women like Lucy by allowing them to focus on their studies and follow their dreams to create positive social change.

Thank you for helping our Rising Stars keep rising!

With gratitude,
