Mariel is a young woman from the Philippines who is pursuing her Master's studies with the support of Wedu's education funding (FISAs) thanks to your help. This is her story.

In 2022, Mariel joined Wedu as a Rising Star, driven by her unwavering belief in education as a powerful tool to empower individuals and make a positive difference. Her passion for educational equity and mental health advocacy in the Philippines led her to seek out a supportive community of like-minded individuals.

Mariel recognized that as a Rising Star, she could build a meaningful network with other women while benefiting from the guidance and support of a Mentor who could help her realize her full potential as a leader. With her mentor's guidance, Mariel has grown more confident in speaking up about the causes she is passionate about, embracing uncertainties in life, and turning challenges into opportunities.

Currently, Mariel is pursuing a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

"FISA created an avenue for me to strengthen my capabilities that I will be using not only for myself and for my family but also for the community. Making monthly contributions is a way to give back to the community. If we want to ignite change, to liberate others, to empower more women to take up space, we should do our part as a FISA member, and I am really happy to provide opportunities for women by contributing something that I, myself experienced. I appreciate that FISA is giving us a chance and a platform to uplift each other, especially, women. More than ever, it is one of the things that we need in order to break barriers, inequalities, and gender discrimination."

With the support she received from FISA to finance her housing and living expenses, she is pursuing her dream of serving her community by gaining the knowledge and skills to advocate for issues she is passionate about, such as quality education, mental health, human rights, and gender equality.

We are very thankful to you for supporting more women achieve their educational goals by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Education Funding. Dalin is a young woman from Cambodia who has completed her undergraduate studies with the support of Wedu's education funding (FISAs) thanks to your help. This is her story.

Rising Star Dalin grew up in the remote village of Khampong Cham, Cambodia, where young people, especially girls, were discouraged from pursuing higher education. Dalin was determined to change this traditional mindset and inspire the next generation of girls in her community to break this norm.

She was fortunate that her family encouraged her education, although they could not support her financially. Dalin found a funding opportunity through Wedu to pay her tuition fees for her bachelor’s degree in International Relations at the Royal University of Law
and Economics, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

With the support of her Wedu mentor during her university years, Dalin built her confidence, gained soft skills, and had more clarity with her goals. She graduated in 2018 and has become the first person in her family to obtain a university education.

She believes that when women complete their education on their own terms, it transforms their leadership journeys; They become more confident in achieving their goals, are involved in decision-making, and take management roles.

Now, as the pilot of her own life, Dalin continues to grow professionally. She said, "Being a FISA member is such a great honour that I have been offered. It is like a bridge to my success because it made my life a lot easier when I was facing financial problems during my higher education at the university."

We are very thankful to you for supporting more women achieve their educational goals by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Education Funding. Your contribution directly supports women like Dalin by allowing them to focus on their studies and follow their dreams to create positive social change. Thanks to you we have been able to raise a total of $6,323 in online donations to contribute towards financing for education, an amount that can provide financial support to more women.

Thinn is a young woman from Myanmar who has benefited from Wedu's education funding (FISAs) thanks to your help. This is her story.

After graduating from Yangon University with a Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Rising Star Thinn worked for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and volunteered in several community projects. These experiences opened her eyes to the realities faced by Burmese people living in poverty due to a lack of access to livelihood and economic opportunities. Since then, she has committed to work towards reducing inequality in Myanmar by becoming a Developmental Economist focused on livelihood projects in underserved areas.

To achieve this goal, she is pursuing a master's degree in Applied Economics and accessing flexible education financing through a FISA enabled her to do this on her own timeline rather than deferring her goal. Thinn has continued receiving mentoring at Wedu to navigate her return to academia.

Thinn is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Applied Economics at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. She said, "Without a FISA, I would face financial incapabilities to study for a Master’s degree and achieve my goals. I now have support to pursue another degree, which will lead to a major improvement for my professional development in the future."

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Education Funding. Laila is a young woman from Philippines who has benefited from Wedu's education funding (FISAs) thanks to your help. This is her story:

"As a driven and enthusiastic global citizen with a proven track record of commended performance in education and organizational management, I am currently pursuing my graduate studies at Åbo Akademi University in Finland taking up a Master of Arts in Education.

I have long been interested in Educational Policies and how it shapes the future of the next generation. Completing this degree would allow me to gain the expertise and skills needed to contribute to the education sector in the developing world, specifically in the field of Education for Sustainable Development. In the long run, I personally envision myself as a future expert and change-maker in education, leading an international organization that transforms lives with the mission to build peace, help eradicate injustice and drive sustainable development through education.

By completing my studies with the help of FISA and gaining the ability to develop innovative educational practices and curricula, I believe that I can contribute to the development of global education policies and systems at the end of my study. As well as provide global and regional leadership in education, strengthen education systems worldwide and respond to contemporary global challenges through education."

Summ is a young woman from Cambodia who has benefited from Wedu's education funding (FISAs) thanks to your help. This is her story:

Summ is a third-year Food Science and Technology major at Thammasat University. She grew up in the countryside where most people in her village have only received education until high school. Now, she is able to break out of that norm.

She shares, "I was able to apply to a university in Thailand. Because of previously studying in an agricultural school, participating in community projects with farmers and growing up in a farming community, I want to make a change and help them earn more income from the agricultural crops that they’ve grown. So, my goal is to make and bring changes in the food industry where we can help to convert those raw materials into high valued products and create food that is good for people as well as for the environment.

I am happy that whatever I will contribute to Wedu in the future will go to funding other Rising Stars and I can help other students like me."
