Afruza is a young woman from Bangladesh who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

“I am Afruza from Bangladesh and I am currently in my final year of BSc in Biotechnology at BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. I have been a Rising Star from January, 2018. Since then every time I needed support in my academic or professional life, I could always look up to Wedu, my mentor and my fellow Rising Stars. Wedu has become a constant support system and a boost to confidence. The journey so far has been amazing and I look forward to being a part of Wedu for a long time.

Wedu’s Leadership Programme has motivated me to take steps towards contributing to my own community. I have started a social business in Bangladesh named ‘Protibha’. Protibha aims to empower women residing in marginalized locations of the country through developing their crafting skills. Through channelizing their handicrafts to the urban market, Protibha has created a sustainable earning opportunity for 40 women till date.

When a family situation was forcing me to apply for an academic loan to continue my undergraduate degree regardless of any financial uncertainty, I approached Wedu instead. This was because I genuinely love the process of how their funding works. One day I hope to be able to support a young woman’s education too.

Right after I graduate, I would like to pursue a job in the National Laboratory. Studying Biotechnology while being involved in several volunteering opportunities in local NGOs, I have realized my inner urge to serve the development sector of my country through supporting the healthcare system. I look forward to pursuing a career in a position where I will be able to serve the community in terms of fighting against disease and enhancing nutritional value of conventional foods.”

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Scholarship. Your contribution directly supports women like Afruza by allowing them to focus on their studies and follow their dreams to create positive social change. Thanks to you we have been able to raise a total of $6,283 in online donations to contribute towards scholarships and funding, an amount that can provide financial support to more Rising Stars this year than ever before. Thank you again so much for your donation and we look forward to sending more exciting Rising Star updates and achievements in coming months.

Thank you for helping our Rising Stars keep rising!

With gratitude,

The Wedu Team

Akanksha is a young woman from India who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

“I am Akanksha from Nepal and recently, I have just finished my  Masters in Business Administration from Said Business School, University of Oxford. I have also been awarded the prestigious Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa by Tech Nation to continue working in the United Kingdom.

I aspire to create much greater social and environmental impact with my work within the Tech for Good sector, especially with a focus on EdTech, Gender Lens Investing, and Impact Investments in emerging economies. I see myself as an instrument in creating more meaningful impacts in this world. I was always driven by a sense of giving back to the community; headstrong and standing for what was right. FISA has empowered me to keep achieving my goals and make a positive impact.

I am a Wedu Rising Star and I have been blessed with amazing mentors with whom I still keep in touch. I decided to apply for FISA to seek help to pay for my visa and secure my future, as well as of those whom I will continue to support with my work in the impact sector.”

Karma is a young woman who has benefited from Wedu funding thanks to your help. This is her story:

“I was born in Thimphu, the capital city of a small country called Bhutan. I studied in Bhutan until year 12 which I completed in 2015 living with my parents. Then In 2016, I started a big venture in my life, which was going to Australia with a big aspiration to become a doctor so that someday I can help all the people regardless of where they come from and what their ethnicity is.

I started off with the diploma in nursing from an institute called Institute of Health and Nursing Australia in Sydney which was for 2 years. Then in February 2019, I continued with a Bachelor of Nursing degree in a university called the University of Technology Sydney from where  I intend to graduate in December 2020.

As a Rising Star, I hope I can learn a lot of new things from the global mentorship program and help the people who are in need with my nursing knowledge, alongside the guidance from my mentor. I believe I can become a doctor one day with the support I have from people around me as well as Wedu.

Wedu’s funding will mainly help me pay off my tuition fees and cover my living expenses throughout the year until I graduate. Without Wedu, I would not be able to pursue my dreams and my career like today.”

Pooja is a young woman who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

I am Pooja from Nepal and currently, I have just finished my master's degree at the University of Sussex, UK. In 2018, I graduated from Asian University for Women with Politics, Philosophy and Economics degree in Bangladesh. I was actively involved in media and films. Therefore, I chose to study Media Practice for Development and Social Change as my master's degree in order to understand the media representations of minority groups and how to create positive digital representations of minorities.

During my masters, I have co-produced two short documentaries and currently, I am working on a photography project for my dissertation. In my free time, I like to create unique photographic concepts and make short films. I plan to work in a creative industry where I can tell untold stories of women and other minority groups.

I have been Wedu rising star since 2015 and I have been blessed with amazing mentors with whom I still keep in touch. Wedu mentorship creates a lifelong friendship that I am truly grateful for. I am glad that Wedu provided me with opportunities to be impacted by two brilliant mentors from different parts of the world.

Wedu's funding has helped me immensely to survive in the UK while I focus on my studies without worrying about financial issues. I have finished my Masters with Merit and I am so glad that Wedu helped to ease my financial burden.”

Mahim is a young woman who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

"I am Mahim and I belong to a small village in Bangladesh.

It is not easy for a girl in our area to continue her higher studies. As I belong to a large family including my 6 sisters, the situation was more difficult for me. But I always wanted to continue my study and complete my higher education. The path was not easy for me.  But through my passion & hard work I always tried to make this path easier because I heartily believed the quote by Paulo Coelho “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. This belief helped me to continue my higher education. In 2015, I started my undergraduate degree at Asian University for Women (AUW) on Public Health with a full scholarship. Besides my studies, I am working as a peer tutor at the Science and Math Centre and I have also been working as a teaching assistant at AUW for one year.

It is my passion to work in public services and to do social work. I have worked for several organizations in the past. I have been volunteering at an organization in Bangladesh (Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar) since 2017 for disseminating menstrual hygiene related information to school-going boys & girls. I always like to explore my knowledge and engage myself more with public services. In the future, I would like to work in the epidemiological field.

I became a Wedu Rising Star around early 2018, and since then I have gotten many opportunities to enhance my leadership skills. I have received leadership training, mentorship and most recent funding for my exchange semester at Yonsei University in South Korea. Without Wedu, I would not have been able to come this far.”

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Scholarship. Your contribution directly supports women like Nak by allowing them to focus on their studies and follow their dreams to create positive social change.
