Summ is a young woman from Cambodia who has benefited from Wedu's education funding (FISAs) thanks to your help. This is her story:

Summ is a third-year Food Science and Technology major at Thammasat University. She grew up in the countryside where most people in her village have only received education until high school. Now, she is able to break out of that norm.

She shares, "I was able to apply to a university in Thailand. Because of previously studying in an agricultural school, participating in community projects with farmers and growing up in a farming community, I want to make a change and help them earn more income from the agricultural crops that they’ve grown. So, my goal is to make and bring changes in the food industry where we can help to convert those raw materials into high valued products and create food that is good for people as well as for the environment.

I am happy that whatever I will contribute to Wedu in the future will go to funding other Rising Stars and I can help other students like me."

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Education Funding. Your contribution directly supports women like Summ by allowing them to focus on their studies and follow their dreams to create positive social change. Thanks to you we have been able to raise a total of $6,323 in online donations to contribute towards financing for education, an amount that can provide financial support to more Rising Stars this year than ever before. Thank you again so much for your donation and we look forward to sending more exciting Rising Star updates and achievements in coming months.

Aqila is a young woman from Afghanistan who has benefited from Wedu's education funding (FISAs) thanks to your help. This is her story:

"Nothing is more challenging than being an Afghan but born and raised in Pakistan where you are still judged as a weak girl. Moreover, you are told to feel sorry for your social, emotional and financial condition. Having seen my parents and siblings working hard to make a better living in Pakistan since the day they had to leave Afghanistan and seek asylum in
Pakistan, I wanted to become the voice of the unheard to share real stories and unveil the truth. I realized that in order to find my voice, I need to first free myself.

My time at University of Central Asia helped me find my voice while graduating with a degree in Communications and Media. I applied to FISA to receive support for my last academic year’s tuition fees.

After graduating from UCA, I want to pursue my graduate studies from Cambridge and become an expert in the field of public policy which will help me to make a significant change in the world."

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Education Funding. Your contribution directly supports women like Aqila by allowing them to focus on their studies and follow their dreams to create positive social change. Mehwish is a young woman from Pakistan who has benefited from a Wedu funding thanks to your help. This is her story:

“I am Mehwish from Pakistan and currently, I am in my final undergraduate year with a major in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Asian University for Women. This semester, I am participating in an exchange programme at the University of Trento, Italy.

My interests lie in the analytical study of International Relations to understand the dynamics of security issues around the globe. I am highly involved with the Debating Society and Model United Nations Club of my university to better understand and discuss various discerning political issues.  In addition, I am very passionate about travelling to explore and learn from diverse cultures through a pluralistic approach.

Currently, I am doing my exchange semester in Italy and I am very much eager to explore the enriched culture present here. Alongside that, I am a Wedu mentee and a part of their Global Mentorship Programme and I am immensely grateful to have such a supportive experience with my mentor. I am hopeful to implement the leadership skills learned through both my exchange semester as well as my experience with Wedu towards bringing about a positive impact in the world. Without the funding provided, it would not have been possible for me to take a step in the right direction.”

Sambridhi is a young woman from Nepal who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

“I am Sambridhi from Nepal and I am a recent graduate with a major in Marketing from the University of Colorado, United States of America.

Although I am in marketing, I have always been passionate about issues concerning gender equity and girl education, therefore, I have been an advocate in my own little ways by participating in dialogues or becoming a medium and a voice to the ones who need it the most.

Being a part of Wedu has led me to many resources and among all of it, finding funding opportunities has been crucial to me, especially as I have been struggling to pay off the final cost of my graduate degree.

I look forward to using my writing and communication skills in the future, to empower women and young girls, not just locally but globally as well.”

We want to send our deepest gratitude to you for supporting this effect and helping us by donating to the Sujata Baskota Honor Scholarship. Afruza is a young woman from Bangladesh who has benefited from a Wedu scholarship thanks to your help. This is her story:

“I am Afruza from Bangladesh and I am currently in my final year of BSc in Biotechnology at BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. I have been a Rising Star from January, 2018. Since then every time I needed support in my academic or professional life, I could always look up to Wedu, my mentor and my fellow Rising Stars. Wedu has become a constant support system and a boost to confidence. The journey so far has been amazing and I look forward to being a part of Wedu for a long time.

Wedu’s Leadership Programme has motivated me to take steps towards contributing to my own community. I have started a social business in Bangladesh named ‘Protibha’. Protibha aims to empower women residing in marginalized locations of the country through developing their crafting skills. Through channelizing their handicrafts to the urban market, Protibha has created a sustainable earning opportunity for 40 women till date.

When a family situation was forcing me to apply for an academic loan to continue my undergraduate degree regardless of any financial uncertainty, I approached Wedu instead. This was because I genuinely love the process of how their funding works. One day I hope to be able to support a young woman’s education too.

Right after I graduate, I would like to pursue a job in the National Laboratory. Studying Biotechnology while being involved in several volunteering opportunities in local NGOs, I have realized my inner urge to serve the development sector of my country through supporting the healthcare system. I look forward to pursuing a career in a position where I will be able to serve the community in terms of fighting against disease and enhancing nutritional value of conventional foods.”
