As we rapidly approach the end of the year, we are all excited and eager to welcome a new year with bright eyes focused on the future. I however would like to encourage some moments of reflection – to look back on what the Tumaini Miles of Smiles has done as an organization and as a community dedicated to serving the needs of orphans, widows, vulnerable children, and families.
You have heard their stories and seen some of their faces. They are young children in primary schools, teenagers in high schools, young adults in colleges, and trade schools, widows taking care of their children, and families living in abject poverty, crying, laughing, and having hope in the face of all things. Tumaini has the incredible privileged of coming into their lives at the most difficult time and spreading joy through our programs and support.
In the year 2022, we served 400 children breakfast and lunch every day through our feeding program. This program helps children stay in school, love school, and stay healthy. This also prevents the children from being separated from their families. Our high school scholarship program was able to pay high school fees for 70 students and 30 have just completed their high school education.
This program has given an opportunity to orphans and vulnerable children to go through high school which is always a tag of war in most vulnerable families. Tumaini has always seen 99% of our high school students complete their studies The trade school project provided skills to more than 50 students and successfully supported teenage mothers who dropped out of school due to pregnancy during covid 19. About 20 girls were supported and were not separated from their babies. They are now preparing for exams starting next year.
Fifty widows received farm inputs (fertilizers and seeds for planting) through our strengthening and empowering families program. This program helps the widows have a good harvest which enables them to have enough food for their children. This program helps prevent children from running away from their homes to work or beg for food but go to school and have confidence in their families. More than 450 people benefit from this program indirectly.
In 2022 we were able to complete our new school building and our students are enjoying our new facility. Finally, I would like to report that Tumaini Miles of Smiles provided job opportunities to more than 60 people from the community. Orphans, widows, vulnerable families, and children are why we do what we do, but YOU ARE THE HOW! YOU ARE THE ESSENTIAL PIECE OF THE PUZZLE THAT ALLOWS OUR DREAMS TO COME TRUE AND HELPS CREATE A SPACE WHERE ALL THE GROUPS FEEL WELCOMED AND HEARD. Your support is what makes all of this imaginable and allows us to think broader, dream bigger, and challenge ourselves to do better every day.
Once again thank you for your continued prayers, support, and commitment to helping the needy. YOU ARE DOING MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE! MANY LIVES AND COMMUNITIES ARE CHANGING! Blessings
Thank you Dear Partners and supporters for all that you helped with in 2022 and all that we are hoping for in 2023.
Merry Christmas and a happy prosperous new year!
Our students who joined the high school this year are doing great and all of them are still in school. There has been a lot of work for the students because we had four semesters. We had one week of holiday in between the four semesters and it has been so tiresome and expensive for parents/guardians. Covid 19 tampered with the academic calendar, we were behind the syllabuses and this is the reason why we had to squeeze everything into one year to enable us to get back to our normal academic calendar.
Things have not been easy for us and our children whom we support. Those guardians with cows sold all the calves and the proceeds paid the school fees. It has been so fulfilling to see that the cows we gave to most of the widows and vulnerable families are helping not only for milk but for educating their children.
This has been the most encouraging thing about this project and we are grateful to those who helped to buy these cows. You have made a big difference in the lives of many and many people have learned a lesson from this whole process. The four semesters were a huge burden but thank you for this project and those who made it happen.
It is always our prayer that you share our projects with your friends and families to grow our support family. Once again thank you so much for your generosity.
We can't stop celebrating our last 8th-grade class that performed very well in their National exams! We had a total of 34 students and all of them are joining High different High schools. We have different categories depending on how many marks you have scored. National Schools are for the best students, Extra County second category, County high schools the third category, Sub-County the fourth, and Location schools are the fifth category. The total marks is 500 and our first students had 406.
Ten students have been admitted to National schools, Fifteen in Extra county, and the remaining 9 in county schools. This is the most improved class and we are proud to be where we are. one hundred percent of our students go through high school, this is important to us because four out of 10 students in rural areas get to join high school.
We are grateful to you all for making it happen. Your continued support is making changing our vulnerable communities in rural areas. We believe that education is a powerful tool to provide a lasting positive change in any given individual's life and that is what you are doing.
All our students will be joining school starting 3rd May 2022 and we cant wait to see how the journey in high school unfolds. Thank you for your prayers and support. You are making a difference!
Happy New Year!
It is our prayer and hope that you are all fine and that the new year is unfolding well. First and foremost, allow me to thank you all for your generosity and commitment to Tumaini family. You have always walked alongside us and it is because of you we can celebrate the achievements in the lives of the children and the entire community.
The times have not been good everywhere, things are not the same but you have not forsaken us, you have not ceased to stand with the poor. the orphaned and vulnerable in our community. Sometimes there are no words to express our gratitude but know that you have saved a life, you have changed life and a community.
I would like to report that our very first group of sponsored students have successfully finished their university degrees and graduated last year. What a joy to see the fruits of your work! Your support through this platform has enabled us to support these students in their education and we are proud to see their success. Monthly support has come out to be a powerful tool in changing lives and vulnerable communities.
We can all see the achievements and it is all because of you. We are very grateful for your commitment. The number of needy cases is overwhelming, It is our prayer that you continue to share with your families and friends about the good work you are doing in the vulnerable communities in Africa. We ae very much willing to reach out to more and change more lives.
On behalf of Tumaini family, I wish you a happy prosperous 2022!
Everything has changed and education sector has not been left out. As the government is trying to put everything back to normal so does everyone else including students.
The academic calendar changed, because students were out of school for three semesters. This affected all the candidates who were ready to sit for their exams and everything was postponed. The eighth grade students did their exams in March, stayed at home for three months and were allowed to join high school in August. The high school form students who were to sit on their exams in November 2020, were forced to their exams in March and are still home waiting to join universities and colleges this month of September.
All in all, we are grateful for your continued support. All our students are safe and are ready to continue with their learning. Those who were supposed to join high school are already in school and are coping with the high school environment. We are proud of our students, despite the long holiday, they still passed their exams and have joined good schools.
We are looking forward for the good results as they progress. Those who did their high school exams have performed well, we have 5 joining different joining different universities. This is very encouraging. The reason behind the good results is because of your continued support prayers and commitment. Your support to Tumaini has always seen lives changing and the needy children progressing. This is not only changing the lives of these children and families but the entire community.
You have always made it happen. Let’s press on, help us by sharing the good news with friends. Together we can do it
