As we rapidly approach the end of the year, we are all excited and eager to welcome a new year with bright eyes focused on the future. I however would like to encourage some moments of reflection – to look back on what the Tumaini Miles of Smiles has done as an organization and as a community dedicated to serving the needs of orphans, widows, vulnerable children, and families.
You have heard their stories and seen some of their faces. They are young children in primary schools, teenagers in high schools, young adults in colleges, and trade schools, widows taking care of their children, and families living in abject poverty, crying, laughing, and having hope in the face of all things. Tumaini has the incredible privileged of coming into their lives at the most difficult time and spreading joy through our programs and support.
In the year 2022, we served 400 children breakfast and lunch every day through our feeding program. This program helps children stay in school, love school, and stay healthy. This also prevents the children from being separated from their families. Our high school scholarship program was able to pay high school fees for 70 students and 30 have just completed their high school education.
This program has given an opportunity to orphans and vulnerable children to go through high school which is always a tag of war in most vulnerable families. Tumaini has always seen 99% of our high school students complete their studies The trade school project provided skills to more than 50 students and successfully supported teenage mothers who dropped out of school due to pregnancy during covid 19. About 20 girls were supported and were not separated from their babies. They are now preparing for exams starting next year.
Fifty widows received farm inputs (fertilizers and seeds for planting) through our strengthening and empowering families program. This program helps the widows have a good harvest which enables them to have enough food for their children. This program helps prevent children from running away from their homes to work or beg for food but go to school and have confidence in their families. More than 450 people benefit from this program indirectly.
In 2022 we were able to complete our new school building and our students are enjoying our new facility. Finally, I would like to report that Tumaini Miles of Smiles provided job opportunities to more than 60 people from the community. Orphans, widows, vulnerable families, and children are why we do what we do, but YOU ARE THE HOW! YOU ARE THE ESSENTIAL PIECE OF THE PUZZLE THAT ALLOWS OUR DREAMS TO COME TRUE AND HELPS CREATE A SPACE WHERE ALL THE GROUPS FEEL WELCOMED AND HEARD. Your support is what makes all of this imaginable and allows us to think broader, dream bigger, and challenge ourselves to do better every day.
Once again thank you for your continued prayers, support, and commitment to helping the needy. YOU ARE DOING MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE! MANY LIVES AND COMMUNITIES ARE CHANGING! Blessings
Thank you Dear Partners and supporters for all that you helped with in 2022 and all that we are hoping for in 2023.
Merry Christmas and a happy prosperous new year!
