Following in her Mother's Footsteps

By Karen Sparacio | Project Leader

Sadly, in February, one of our members and a talented artisan, Rose, unexpectedly passed away.  She had recently given birth to a premature daughter who remains hospitalized and fighting for her life.  A mother with six children, Rose left both her family and community devastated.  A graduate of our vocational training program, she used her knitting skills and talent of crafting beautiful jewelry to support her family.  Her husband does not have steady work.  Rose was one of eleven children, so the burden is too great for her mother or other family members to help much.

The Project Have Hope family has stepped in to sponsor scholastically four of her children, young Moses, Brenda, Dorcas and Patrick.  "I have always helped my family take care of my younger siblings," says 16 year old Dorcas.  "But it is now even more important that I contribute."

"My mother was a ‘business lady.’ Every Friday she sold her paper bead jewelry at the market. In school, I enjoy studying commerce. I hope to be a ‘business lady’ like my mom was."  Please help us to provide the education to these children that their mother struggled to provide.

You can help.  Just $100 provides tuition for one term.  Consider giving the gift, the opportunity, of education to a child who would not otherwise have it.

I would be a street child if I weren't in school.
