“Let education not make you rich, but rather, useful,” is the mantra of Winnie’s headmaster at Bishop Cypriano’s academically competitive secondary school.
Winnie is 16 and was born and raised in the Acholi Quarter, a slum on the outskirts of Kampala. Despite many struggles and challenges, Winnie remains undaunted in her quest to receive a solid education. “I love learning a lot,” exclaims Winnie, who loves to read and can often be found in the school library looking for books in French to read.
She hopes to pursue a career doing charity work. She knows very well the struggles of poverty and is committed to doing her part to contribute to creating a better world. “I want to do my part to help,” Winnie flatly states. “Believe you can, and you’re halfway there!”
You can help. A $25 donation provides a monthly scholarship for a child. Consider giving the gift, the opportunity, of education to a child who would not otherwise have it.
