Independence Day performance @ Airport
Dear Kind Hearts
Greetings from SANKALP team
Second quarter August- October besides normal education and training activities, was full of festivity celebrations, participations in events and field trips.
Sankalp children participated at the sports event “Prerna” organized by the students of Faculty of Technology & Engineering of MS University. Two of the children Sohana & Ria got First position in the Aim the Pyramid and were given cash prizes.
Children were invited by the Director Airport Authority of India of Vadodara Airport to visit the airport and also participate in India’s 72nd Independence Day celebration. Children saw the program given by the employees of the Airport Authority and also gave a dance performance which was very well appreciated by everyone present. They were also taken around within the airport premises in their bus and also near the runway from where they saw the flight taking off. They were thrilled to see the airplane taking off. It was a lifetime experience to the children as they would not have a chance to see the aircraft from so near. They were very happy and enjoyed the visit very much which can be seen from their beaming faces.
A musical evening of melodious Hindi songs was organised in support of Sankalp on 25th August. This event was sponsored by Mr. Niraj Parikh from Canada.. The purpose of the event was to create awareness among the people about Sankalp. Before the professional artists bwgan their performance, three etems that included one solo dance, one instrumental and one group dance were rendered by Sankalp children. Despite their physical and mental limitations, all the children were confident and happy to perform before the crouded hall. All the three performances as well as the Hindi melodies of the seventees sung by Ms. Kirtan and her co-singer Mr. Niraj were very much liked by the audience and the hall was nearly packed to it's capacity till the end.
Festival of Rakhi (Tying of thread by sisters on the hands of their brothers) & Janmashtami (Birth of lord Krishna) were celebrated on 27th & 31st August respectively.
Teacher's day is a special day for appreciation and recognition of teachers and is celebrated on 5th of September every year which is the birthday of Dr. S Radhakrishnan, the former president of India. Sankalp children celebrated it to honor all the teachers for their special contribution in the field and for the community. Such occasions create a strong bond between teachers and students.
Ganesh festival was celebrated on 14th September by installing an eco friendly idol of lord Ganesh which was made by the teachers and children of Sankalp. The function started with traditional prayer and dance and Garba on Ganesha songs. The function ended with immersion of the idol in water.
Children were taken for an educational field trip on the cross road for the purpose of introducing the basic road safety rules to them. Children enjoyed learning about various aspects of road safety in a playway method. The little visitors also got the chance to cross the road independently in busy traffic by watching the signal and the traffic carefully. They learnt an important lesson about the measures to be adopted by them to be safe on the road. The visit was instrumental in sensitizing the children about road safety and the significance of followingtraffic rules. It was not only fun for the children but also a first hand learning experience with a refreshing mix of education and entertainment, what we like to call an Edutainment.
Children celebrated Navratri festival by participating in many Garba dance programmes organised by different groups.
Dussehra, the festival to celebrate the victory of GOOD ove EVIL, was celebrated on 18th October with lot of religios zeal and fervour by the children. The significance of the festival was explained to the children with the help of an animated film showing Lord Rama killing the Ravana. The celebrations were followed by the traditional fafada & Jalebi treat to the children.
From this month, we have taken another new initiative by starting music classes for selected children. Music is known to create soothing and calming affect on the mental state of human being. We're hoping that this initiative will put the children at ease besides making them happy. initially the class will be help once a week but if the results are found encouraging, we'll increase the frequency. Father of one special child has volunteered to conduct the class.
