Dear Kind Hearts

Greetings from SANKALP team

Second quarter of the year had some new initiatives and was also activity filled. Routine annual Psychological assessment as well as Orthopedic, & Ophthalmic, Pediatric, ENT, Dental checkup checkups of the children were completed. Woolen Sweaters have been ordered for all of them and are expected to be delivered by 3rd week of November well before the onset of winters in Vadodara.

As reported in the last progress report, E-Education with two dedicated teachers has been included in the curriculum as a regular feature. The progress of each child is being recorded in real time at the servers of the partners through the APPS and they are submitting to us quarterly report of the progress made by the child in each activity. This will be incorporated in the annual progress report along with the progress in other areas which are being given directly under Sankalp’s IEP (Individual Education Plan) by our educators/therapists. Assessment of the progress of children by an independent outside agency will verify our claims of improvement in the children and also give confidence to all stake holders.

Besides monitoring of each child’s progress, we have also started guiding parents wherever considered necessary, for replicating the methodology of training being given at Sankalp at their home. Parents have been given written guidelines and the special education in-charge of Sankalp checks and records the extent of guidelines being followed by each parent at home. This was considered necessary as it was felt by our experts that there should not be any difference in training and handling methods at Sankalp & at home in order to avoid the child getting confused.

We have also added few more analyticals in our annual progress report of children this year which will indicate the reasons for low progress achieved by any child in any area of training or therapy and help us take suitable corrective measures.

Children were invited to perform at the Independence Day functions on 15th August by one of our major corporate supporters ONGC. The children gave two dance performances which were very much appreciated by all those present in the function and their chief guest the visiting Director of ONGC, was kind enough to give a cash donation of Rs. 21,000/- to Sankalp. Children were also given one set of track suit besides packet of sweets/chocolates by ONGC.

Many students/persons from different schools/organizations visited Sankalp to learn about our activity during the quarter however, 4 groups of students from Faculty of “Human Development & Family Study” of local MS University were most important since they came to study the training details and methodology used by Sankalp for empowering intellectually & developmentally challenged children. They will submit their report of the observations made by them to their department.

We at Sankalp encourage our children to respect all religions & live in harmony with each other which has been the age old tradition of India. As a part of our regular training children are taken on field trips to build their self-esteem as well to expose them to the society for their greater acceptance. In order to provide them first-hand experience and understand and appreciate places of worship of different religions, they were taken on the first educational field trip of this session to a four such plces, a Gurudwara, a Church, a Mosque and a temple. They were also treated with lunch at the Swaminarayan Temple. Their happy faces are speaking themselves how much they enjoyed their trip.

Children also participated in the sports event organized by the state Government and three of the children won prizes, two in 100 meter walk (second & third prize) and one (third prize) in Bocche game getting cash prizes of Rs.3,000/-, 2,000/- & 1,000/- respectively. This indeed boosts their self-esteem and confidence.

Children also learnt making Rakhi, Diyas & Key chains for festivals of Rakhi, & Diwali under their pre-vocational activity classes.

Until the next report a big THANK YOU for your support to our project. We assure you that YOU will be updated on what impact YOUR donation is making & what accomplishments we have achieved from time to time.
