Karmirhath Hospital is located at Gaibandha, a small rural town in the North-West Corner of Bangladesh. The hospital has been serving the people of Gaibandha and the surrounding districts since 1986. The Eye Care Section of the Hospital holds Cataract Surgery Session every month. During the last three months 1,680 eye patients were treated at the hospital. Cataract operations were conducted on 94 patients.
Karmirhath Hospital has been popular due to two reasons:
Case Study:
Amiron, 55 years of age, is a widow and has four children. Her husband died ten years ago.
She lives about 10 kilometers away from Karmirhath hospital. She is very poor. She had
problems in her eyes for quite a few years. She did not go to any doctor for want of money.
About a year ago, her son took her to a doctor who told her that she might be having
Cataract and advised her to go to Karmirhath hospital. Her son who himself is very poor,
took her to Karmirhath hospital. An Eye Specialist examined Amiron and recommended
her for Surgery. Surgeon performed cataract surgery..
Aged 68 years, Monarul Huq is an agriculture labor. He is poor. He developed problems in his eyes but, being poor, could not afford treatment. One social worker took Monarul to karmirhath hospital where he was admitted and got free treatment.
Aged about 70 years, Sahabani is a resident of nearby village called Joypara. in Gaibandha town. She was a domestic help and as such unable to arrange treatment for her eye problem. For long, doctors could not diagnose his eye problems. About a months ago, she came to Karmirhath hospital. Dr. Abdus Samad, examined her eyes and found that she had cataract. Operation was conducted for removing cataract. She was not charged any fee.
Free treatment were given to all the patients. This has been possible due to liberal donations from GlobalGiving.

Karmirhath Hospital is located at Gaibandha, a small rural town in the North-West Corner of Bangladesh. The hospital has been serving the people of Gaibandha and the surrounding districts since 1986. The Eye Care Section of the Hospital holds Cataract Surgery Session every month. During the last three months 1,544 eye patients were treated at the hospital. Cataract operations were conducted on 61 patients.
Case Study:
Zorina, 55 years of age, is a widow and has five children. Her husband died five years ago. She lives about 20 kilometers away from Karmirhath hospital. Zorina is very poor. She had problems in her eyes for quite a few years. She did not go to any doctor having no money. About a year ago, her son took her to a doctor who told her that she might be having Cataract and advised her to go to Karmirhath hospital. Her son who himself is very poor, took her to Karmirhath hospital. An Eye Specialist examined Zorina and recommended her for Surgery. Surgeon performed surgery on both of her eyes free of charges.
Shamsu, 70 years old, is a resident of Masterpara in Gaibandha town. He was engaged in Agriculture profession. He developed problems in his eyes for long time. For long, doctors could not diagnose his eye problems. About four months ago, Shamsu came to Karmirhath hospital. Dr. Abdus Samad, a retired Eye Specialist examined Shamsu’s eyes. After a number of tests, Dr. Samad came to conclusion that Shamsu has been suffering from Glaucoma, an eye disease related to pressure on eyes. It’s a complicated eye disease and very difficult to cure. However, doctor has suggested some medicine that may give some relief to his eyes.
Free treatment were given to both the patients. This has been possible due to liberal donations from GlobalGiving.

Karmirhath Hospital is located at a small rural town known as Gaibandha in the North-West Corner of Bangladesh. The hospital has been serving the people of Gaibandha and the surrounding districts since 1986. The Eye Care Section of the Hospital holds Cataract Surgery Session every months. During the last three months 3,061 eye patients were treated at the hospital. Cataract operations were conducted on 86 patients.
Case Study:
Golena, 55 years of age, is a widow and her three children died while they were very young. She is very poor. Her younger sister who works as a domestic help in other’s house bears Golena’s needs. Golena was diagnosed as having cataract in both of her eyes about a year ago. She could not afford cost of her treatment. She was brought to Karmirhath hospital about two months ago. Surgery were conducted on both of her eyes free of charges.
Hazrat, 70 years old, is a resident of Masterpara in Gaibandha town. He was engaged in Agriculture profession. He developed problems in his eyes for long time. For long, doctors could not diagnose his eye problems. About six months ago, Hazrat came to Karmirhath hospital. Dr. Abdus Samad, a retired Eye Specialist examined Hazrat’s eyes. After a number of tests, Dr. Samad came to conclusion that Ibrahim has been suffering from Glaucoma, an eye disease related to pressure on eyes. It’s a complicated eye disease very difficult to cure. However, doctor has suggested some medicine that may give some relief to his eyes, if not cure.

Chitra is a second year Honors student in a local college at Gaibandha. She developed problems in her eyes at the age of 10. Eye Specialist Drt. Abdus Samad at Karmirhath Hospital cured her eye problems without resorting to surgery. Chitra is now fully cured.
Ibrahim, 70 years old is a resident of Masterpara in Gaibandha town. He is engaged in Agriculture profession. He developed problems in his eyes for long time. Cataract operations are going on smoothly at our Karmirhath Hospital. Thanks to our overseas donors who donated through GlobalGiving Foundations. 1126 eye patients received treatments during the last two months. 59 patients went through Cataract operations and got back their eye sights.
Case Study:
Fulmot is 36 years old. She is married and has 3 children. She works in an Ice cream factory as a day labour. Her husband is also a day labor and works as agriculture labor. Fulmoti was detected to have developed cataract in her eyes in an Eye Camp about five years ago. She was brought to Karmirhath Eye Hospital and admitted for cataract operations. After thorough examinations and tests, operations were conducted on both eyes Seven days apart, free of costs. With eye sights restored, Fulmoti went home, resumed her work as a day labor in Ice Cream Factory. She was very thankful to Karmirhath Hospital and to those donors who helped the hospital with fund and to those who provided fund for her treatment.
