                                                 Project Report (Project 3595)

Karmirhath Hospital is located at a small rural town known as Gaibandha in the North-West Corner of Bangladesh. The hospital has been serving the people of Gaibandha and the surrounding districts since 1986. The Eye Care Section of the Hospital holds Cataract Surgery Session every months. During the last three months 3,061 eye patients were treated at the hospital. Cataract operations were conducted on 86 patients.

Case Study:

  1. Golena (not her real name);

Golena, 55 years of age, is a widow and her three children died while they were very young. She is very poor. Her younger sister who works as a domestic help in other’s house bears Golena’s needs. Golena was diagnosed as having cataract in both of her eyes about a year ago. She could not afford cost of her treatment. She was brought to Karmirhath hospital about two months ago. Surgery were conducted on both of her eyes free of charges.

  1. Hazrat (not his real name):

Hazrat, 70 years old, is a resident of Masterpara in Gaibandha town. He was engaged in Agriculture profession. He developed problems in his eyes for long time. For long, doctors could not diagnose his eye problems. About six months ago, Hazrat came to Karmirhath hospital. Dr. Abdus Samad, a retired Eye Specialist examined Hazrat’s eyes. After a number of tests, Dr. Samad came to conclusion that Ibrahim has been suffering from Glaucoma, an eye disease related to pressure on eyes. It’s a complicated eye disease very difficult to cure. However, doctor has suggested some medicine that may give some relief to his eyes, if not cure.

Free treatment were given to both the patients. This has been possible due to liberal donations from GlobalGiving.
