HELP RESTORE EYESIGHTS TO 500 BANGLADESHIS

PROJECT REPORT_April, 2014.

Cataract operations are going on smoothly at our Karmirhath Hospital. Thanks to our overseas donors for helping us. We are happy to provide services to our increasing number of patients. During the last three months, attendances of eye patients are increasing.

Case Studies:

Motiron Begum (Not her real name): Motiron Begum is 55 years old. Her one son and a daughter left her after their marriages. Her husband is old and very sick for long. She works in a rice mill as a day labor. She developed cataract in her eyes. She almost went blind with her cataract. She could not afford treatment of her eyes. Somehow, she heard about Karmirhath hospital where, she heard, nobody is denied treatment for want of money. One day she came to the hospital. She was thoroughly examined and, later, cataract operations were conducted on both of her eyes free of charge. Motiron Begum has now returned to her profession as day labor. She is very grateful to Karmirhath hospital and to those who provide fund for such operations.

Sandhya Rani (Not her real name): Sandhya Rani, aged 65 years, hails from the nearby

Polashbari, about 20 kilometers from Gaibandha. She lost her husband about six years ago. She is

very poor. She works as a domestic help. A few years ago, she developed cataract in her eyes.

Doctors suggested operation. As she is very poor, she was unable to manage fund for her

operation. At the advice of her neighbor she one day came to Karmirhath Hospital. After necessary

tests, Cataract operations were performed on both of her eyes in two occasions. Sandhya Rani has

got back her eye sights on both of her eyes.

HELP RESTORE EYESIGHTS TO 500 BANGLADESHIS PROJECT REPORT_December, 2013. It is being observed that incidences of cataract patients have been increasing at our hospital during the last few months. As already reported, patients are now attending hospitals at their own initiatives. Previously, Eye Camps were arranged in remote areas to detect cataract patients and they were brought to our hospital at our costs for operations to remove cataracts. Karmirhath hospital is giving them necessary services with all earnestness. We are following our old practices of not letting any patients go un-served for want of money. Case Studies: 1. Morzina Begum: Morzina Begum is 83 years old. She lives with her only son who is very poor. A few years ago, Morzina had problems with her eyes. She had cataract in both of her eye sights. As she had no money, she could not get any treatment. She almost went blind. Luckily, she came to know about Karmirhath hospital where poor patients also get good treatment. One day one kind hearted person helped her to come to our hospital. At the hospital, after examinations, cataracts were removed from both of her eyes. Morzina Begum was very happy to get her eye sights restored without paying anything. She was extremely grateful to those ho paid for her treatment. 2. Abdul Kader: Abdul Kader, 54 years of age, hails from the nearby district of Polashbari. He is a poor person with five children. He had some problem with his eyes. When contacted a local doctor, he was informed that he had cataract which needed surgery. Being a poor man he expressed his inability to arrange fund for his cataract operation. The attending doctor who was aware of the services of Karmirhath hospital of serving poor patients free advised his patient Abdul Kader to contact Karmirhath hospital. At the hospital, Abdul Kader was operated and his cataract was removed free of charge. Abdul Kader was very grateful for the free service to GlobalGiving and Karmirhath Hospital. ATTACHMENTS: 1. HELP RESTORE EYESIGHTS TO 500 BANGLADESHIS PROJECT REPORT - September, 2013. Following a few awareness programs in the remote rural areas during the last two months, there has been an increased attendance of cataract patients at Karmirhath hospital at Gaibandha. Unlike previous years, patients are coming at their own initiative. It’s a good sign. Case Studies: 1. Halima Bewa: She is 95 years old, lives with one of her daughter who is also very poor. Halima had her cataract quite a few years ago. Being very poor, she could not get any proper treatment. As a result, she became almost blind. Last month, one of her kind-hearted neighbors brought her at Karmirhath hospital. At the hospital, all necessary tests were conducted and kept her there for operation of her cataract. Her cataract was removed from one eye through manual Phaco surgery on August 20, 2013. Cataract from her other eye will be removed next month. Since her admission at the hospital, she was given free treatment including operations, lens and medicines. She is very grateful to the donors. 2. Jasim Uddin: 90 years old. Developed cataract two years ago. Could not afford operation due to acute poverty. He came to Karmirhath hospital about 2 months ago. Cataract from his one eye was removed on August 20, 2013 through manual Phaco operation. Phaco operation will be performed on his other eye next month. All his treatment including operations, lens and medicines. He is very grateful to the donors who made possible his free treatment. The following documents are attached:
