Creando tutoriales para Marimba
Creando tutoriales para Marimba

Since the pandemic began, we have had so many challenges in continuing our work; however, we have been adapting to the needs that children and young people are presenting to continue being close to music.

The number of people we now reach has become smaller, this mainly because many members of the Association do not have access to the technology necessary to be able to have their classes or the necessary resources to continue learning. This is the saddest part we have faced so far.

Despite everything, we continue to use technology to reach those who do have this possibility, and this, until the disease is controlled in our country.

We have developed a series of videos about our national instrument, "La Marimba", with the aim of maintaining the interest and approach to music in all our students. Professor Francisco Linares is the one who has developed this series and has had a great scope and this material will be especially useful even when everything returns to normal, because it contains valuable didactic information about the instrument and can even become "classes" of support to any Professor who needs it.

To continue developing these materials, and to be able to get access to it even those who do not yet have the necessary technology, it is important to continue to count on their help. Remember that it is through your help that we can reach hundreds of Guatemalan children and young people, who today more than ever, need to have positive activities in their lives to continue growing and training as good people.

So, we can only thank you for your valuable help and reaffirm our commitment to continue working, with all the means at our disposal, so that music continues to be part of the development of the children and youth of Guatemala.

Until next time.

Dear friends, on this occasion we only want to offer a sincere apology to all of you for not transmitting recently achieved achievements.

We have a reason that has put us in this situation... Covid-19 disease has caught up with us.

We are living, in our families, contagions of this disease that comes to complicate all the work, however, we are full of faith and confidence that all this will happen soon and again we will be able to bring to you good news, especially how music helps thousands of Guatemalan children and young people cope with this disease and defeat it , filling us with good cheer and joy.

Remember that your help has been essential so that Sounds for Life can reach all these children and young people in Guatemala.

With your help we continue to reach 6 public schools in our country, but it still takes a lot to do, especially now that we have to provide different tools to reach all of them.

Thank you for all your help and we look forward to your understanding.

Right now, where there are many sick people and many others dying, obviously music has been an aspect of life that has stopped paying attention. In Guatemala this has been even more pronounced and education has come to the background. We are convinced that music would make a big difference in the lives of millions of children and young people who now live locked up most of the time. We know that music would help you live with more joy and peace these moments. It is not convenient for music to be taken out of their lives as well. However, most of our sponsors have stopped supporting our project and we need help to continue fighting the current and bringing the joy of music to the more than 3,000 children and young people who are part of Sounds for Life. We have been working on the development of videos that accompany each of them in their musical development and can continue to make the most of their time in something that will change their lives. Now, more than ever, your help is indispensable for us so that all these children continue to have in their lives THE JOY OF MUSIC.

Recently, a renowned violinist from Guatemala, graduated from the National Conservatory of Music of this country, shared with a Teacher, who is a volunteer ofthe program of Soundsfor Life, ahistory thathas touched our hearts and shows us that the work that we are doing WORTH IT. It's amazing how music can influence the lives of children and young people, so we must continue to work.

Next, we share with you this brief but beautiful story...

"Today I had to go out on foot, in that I can see a baby carrying mecapal(mecapal – loop tool for heavy loads on the back) quite wood, a baby about 10 yearsold. In addition to his load, a CHUCHO (dog) was barking at him and wanted to bite him;I put on a couple of him and told him not to be afraid, quickly he saw me and his little eyes were on..

     -  What instrument is that? He told me. I was carrying my violin.

I told him a violin and he said:

     - I, in my School play GUITAR!!And my classmates play violin, just like you!

Notice that we are preparing a song to go play her to César Brañas (An event hall from Antigua Guatemala, not a person)

You would have seen how proud my little boy (my dear boy)with his wood in tow.Really touched my little heart.

But more when I asked:

       - What's your teacher's name who teaches them at your school??

       - He said to me: Seño Elvira!!!

What a beautiful Elvisss

That with your work you touch lives thisway. You'dsee the pride of your little boy and how well it makes you feel..

Bravooo Elvis, for your work!"

When you collaborate with Sounds for Life, you are contributing to the many stories like this, which show that music does change the lives of children, of every human being.

With their contribution we can reach more than 3,000 children from at-risk communities, where opportunities for comprehensive education do not exist.

Continue to help us so that we can continue to do this work.

Thanks a lot.

In Antigua Guatemala, there is a small village located on top of a very picturesque and beautiful mountain. This community is called "El Cerro de San Felipe" and, although it is located just 5 minutes from the center of Antigua, there is a lot of poverty and a great need of opportunities, to be able to have a better life, away from the gangs, the drug and all the crime that is lived in the lu Gar.

Sounds For Life has been working in this community for more than two years and, even with many difficulties, it has been possible to start to have results; the children and young people who make up this group begin to feel part of it and start working as a team.

All this has resulted in the last 9 December, this group of children and young people organized their first concert for their entire community, managing to have an attendance of approximately 300 people, who enjoyed the music that the group prepared for them.

This group is also forming leaders, who will then bring more benefits for their entire community and usher in a generational change with more vision of life and respect for life and, in general, for others.

In Sounds For Life we work to foster this type of development through constant work and that, through experience, children and young people learn that a negative environment can be changed to a very positive one, that the good for their community is also good for them, that things can be done well and with passion.

The help you provide allows us to continue working in these types of communities and also allows us to reach more children and young people who need this drive to have a better life.

Thank you for your help!!!
