We transform the lives of low income children in Guatemala through music education. Our programs help kids develop important life skills and a positive self image so they can begin to believe that they have the ability to achieve whatever they want in life. Guatemala has suffered greatly through a very long civil war but we can help rebuild civil society by giving our children, among other things, the opportunity to have music in their lives.
Guatemala is a country still struggling in the wake of a long and bloody civil war that is currently plagued by pervasive violence and poverty. Children raised in such a violent atmosphere are robbed of their sense of self-worth. Many kids live in cities and villages without access to programs for building positive self esteem and opportunities to enrich their lives.
We offer free music classes led by skilled teachers to students, ages 8-17, from marginalized communities. Through these classes, kids become part of a new and vibrant community of young music makers. Students also become mentors to their peers and perform publicly, gaining self-confidence and sharing the gift of music with their communities. These programs offer opportunities to children from cities and villages who would not otherwise have access.
By teaching kids that they are valued and have the ability to achieve their goals and dreams, we ultimately aim to create healthier communities and increase the peace in our country and in the region.
