Expanding Skills, Sustaining Communities, Securing Futures
Building on our previous updates covering nursery growth, Environmental Day tree planting, the generous SPURS Women Group donation, model nursery expansion, and early Oceanic Bubbles progress, this quarter marks significant strides in vocational training, agricultural diversification, operational resilience, and enterprise development.
1. Launch of the TVET Program
We are proud to announce the official onset of our Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program. Courses now offered include Hair Beauty & Cosmetology, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Child Care & Protection, and Kenya Sign Language (KSL). The college welcomed its first student enrolled in the Kenya Sign Language course, marking a meaningful start to inclusive skills development that will empower youth and community members with marketable competencies.
2. Introduction of Sheep Farming
As part of our strategy to build sustainable income streams, we have introduced sheep farming. The college has received its first male sheep and is awaiting the female sheep supported through GlobalGiving funding. This initiative is designed both as a future revenue source for the institution and as a means to supplement meals for students and staff, strengthening food security and operational self-reliance.
3. Salaries & Wages – Sustaining Our Team
Kenya’s current economic challenges have placed considerable pressure on the college’s operations. In this context, approximately 30% of GlobalGiving funds have been directed toward salaries and wages. This support has been critical in retaining dedicated staff and ensuring continuity of quality education and care for the children and learners we serve.
4. Oceanic Bubbles Bottling Plant Update
Progress continues on the Oceanic Bubbles bottling plant. As we move closer to completing all regulatory requirements, the plant has begun limited public trials of its water. This low-scale introduction is helping introduce the brand to the community while final compliance steps are finalized—an important milestone toward a viable social enterprise.
