United we stand!

By Catalina Alvarez | Project Manager

United for Colombia joined efforts with the U.S Embassy in Colombia, Hughes International Clinic, National Police of Colombia and CIREC Foundation to provide leg prosthesis to 30 armed conflict survivors in Colombia, specially landmine victims.

Last May, patients from all over the country came the Bogota, Colombia´s capital city, to receive their medical treatment.

During a week, a group of thirteen specialists (doctors, physiotherapists and prosthetic technicians), Colombian and Americans, took care of the patients adjusting the prosthesis according to their needs. They also received physical therapies to improve their walking.

The most remarkable patient was Darley, a 7 years old boy who lives in Sipi, Chocó, Colombia. During a fight between the Army and the ELN (Colombian guerrilla group), when Darley was 3 years old, an explosive fell into his house. As a result of the injuries, his right leg had to be amputated above the knee. His happy face reflects the tenderness of his soul!
