Poverty not barrier for Education - Nurture Merit

Dear  Well wishers ,

2015 was eventful and challenging for Vidya Poshak. We are very pleased to give you the yearly updates. Following are the highlights.

1. 2000 students from economically challenged background from 10 districts of Karnataka were  supported to continue their Higher Education who otherwise would have dropped out of Education.
2. Through Vidya Poshak Support 680 students completed their Graduation during the year 2015. Out of which 200 have completed their professional education. More than 75% of them got placement within 3 months of their completion of Graduation.
3. More than 25 students who completed their Class-12 exams topped their respective PU College and more than 40 of them got above 90% marks.
4. 500 New students have been identified and inducted to the Nurture Merit Program, These students would be supported until their completion of their Education.
5. With  GlobalGiving Donors support 64 students were assisted to continue their Education.

New Programs

• IIT Training: Vidya Poshak & Avanti Fellows Joined hands to Provide Free IIT Training for Meritorious, Low-income Students. Overall 30 students are now being trained focusing on JEE Exams. Everyday 3 hours of classes conducted in VP office.

• College Training Programs is innovative idea of training the degree students from rural colleges for 6 to 14 days and the students are enabled with skill sets to get first job and ready for crack competitive exams.  VP has conducted training for more than 300 students from 5 colleges this year. 

• Matching Grant Scheme: Under this program economically backward and meritorious students of an institution are financially supported jointly by the institution and Vidya Poshak (50: 50: Partnership) In addition Vidya Poshak provides employment readiness training for the students selected under this scheme. 10 New Degree Colleges have joined for this initiative.

• Value Education & Supportive Classes: Vidya Poshak Training team in association with Tata Motors is providing Career Guidance, Life Skills, Value Education & Supportive Classes for Student of Class 8,9 & 10 in 4 schools surrounding Tata Motors Plant. 

 Updates of  Vidya Poshak’s Flagship Programs

Nurture Merit (Financial Assistance, Library, Camp)

• This year more than 3200 students were applied for financial assistance
• During the year 1500+ Meritorious and financial challenged students were financially assisted with Sum of INR 75 Lakh to pursue their higher education (Till date). 
• More than 17,000 books were issued and 11549 students got assisted from Vidya Poshak library and youth centers.
• Under youth program ,library/youth centers  has organized programs like career guidance session, Study skill  techniques, education counseling’s etc  for the benefit of students community
• During the year, 12 residential bridge camps and four college training programs were organized at various places covering a total of 1000+ students.

Education loan awareness & advocacy Program

• Through this program 300 Vidya Poshak assisted students and over 5000 other (non-Assisted) students who completed PUC-II year with the process of Applying for the Education Loan and had increased awareness about the education loan and interest subsidy scheme.
• 1000+ students who encountered difficulties in getting education loans assisted with guidance and intervention with bank officials Through our Education Loan HelpDesk & Facebook Page.
• The project kicked off in May 2015.We have already tie up with 10 educational institutions  and supported 120 students with the amount of INR 6.00Lakh.

Matching Grant Scheme

• Vidya Poshak is associated with BVB College of Engineering and SDM College of Engineering for providing support for Engineering Students.

Achievements:

• More than 10 students have cleared their CPT & IPCC and other main entrance exams during the year 2015-16.

• More than 75  Vidya Poshak Final year Engineering students were already placed in reputed companies through Campus Recruitment with an Average salary of INR 3.0 Lakhs per year. 

• 39% of Vidya Poshak PUC-2 students have got Distinction. 20 students scored 100/100 in one of their Subjects. 37 students scored more than 90% in PUC-2 Exams

• Totally 300 Vidya Poshak alumni members have been contributed INR 8.00 lakh during this year for supporting the needy students. 

      Reaching the mile stone

• Vidya Poshak Central Library housed in “Saraswati” Vishweswar nagara hubli, which has completed 10 years of its operation catering to Book support and  other services  to vidya poshak and non vidya poshak students. Till date more than 1,80,000 students have been directly benefited through the Library Services

• Through various Vidya Poshak Training Programs more than 1,20,000 students have been trained on different skill training programs in last 10 Years 

• www.vidyaposhak.net our blog for the students community which provides informations like Job Alerts, Aptitude Preparation, Interview Preparation, Career Counseling is used by more 10,000students every month. More than 15,00,000 visits made by the users in last 5 years.
