#ChooseAdvocacy

Happy Fall everyone!

Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center turns 16 years old this month!  We have experienced so much growth over the last six years as we added our crisis response services.  Aspen is not allowed in the hospitals but she does an excellent job working with the survivors here in our office.

Advocacy work is a rewarding job. We are privileged to walk along side of survvivors who #ChooseAdvocacy.  We have been responding to emergency rooms for years.  However, last June, the state of Indiana put in place a Victim Rights statue that outlines the rights for sexual assault survivors.  IC 35-40.5.  What was formerly considered "best practice" is now a RIGHT!  Survivors have a right to speak with an Advocate during any hospital visit for the purpose of receiving a sexual assault exam.  Survivors have a right to speak with an Advocate during the course of an investigation.

What does all this mean?  Survivors do not have to walk the process alone!  For a full description of the Victims RIghts Statue, please visit our website or watch our video at the links attached to this report.

In addition to the supporting survivors, Aspen takes very good care of her co-workers!  As you can see in the pictures, she loves on them any chance she gets. We love our job!  However, we can get tired, overwhelmed and affected by vicarious trauma.  Having Aspen in the office allows our staff the additional support we need to move forward each day!

We are so grateful for your continued support of Aspen and our Therapy Dog Program.  This program is 100% community funded!  So, every donation you make goes directly to support Aspen.  We could not provide this services without your generosity!
