Creating 2D animation
The Media Arts Lab is a natural extension of Agastya’s multisensory approach to learning. It supports teachers, training them to use technology to make teaching aids and conduct research. Students are taught to use digital cameras, video cameras, computers, sound recorders and more. They produce movies on social concerns, make pamphlets and posters to raise awareness, and learn tools for social activism at the local level. Overall, the Centre is a tool of empowerment, pushing children to make a positive difference in society.
For the month of January to March-2019, the Media Arts Lab reached out to 1,485 children across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka & Tamil Nadu.
Overview of the activities for the month of January to March-2019
Production details: Abhivyakti, Animation, Audio Recording, Storybook, and Videography.
Abhivyakti: Children gained knowledge on pinhole cameras and its working. Additionally, they acquired hands-on experience of making pinhole camera. Then children used analog camera to tuck photos in villages. After completion of photography, they experienced developing photo in Black and white. (Abhivyakti program held at VIth grade Z.P.H.S Sanganapalli, Andhra Pradesh).
Animation: The process began with making flipbook on various topics. Then children moved on to writing a story for animation and learning process of stop motion animation. Children also learnt how to narrate stories, later moved to storyboard and character designing process of their production of 2D Stop Motion Animation. (Animation program held at VIth grade [A] section, Z.P.G.H.S Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh)
Audio Recording: Children were taught on the role of audio in storytelling. With diverse story ideas in mind, children recorded suitable background sounds. Now, they have moved a step forward by writing scripts for radio with their peers. Children started recording their script and later they moved to the editing process in Final Cut Pro. To add background music they researched on the Internet and removed noise from the audio recording. (Audio recording held at VIth grade, DNTWGS Gudikothuru School)
Story Book: Having read and heard various stories through our library program, children began writing their own stories. Children narrate stories and design characters for their storybook. These ideas are now being transformed into storybooks that are being created by the children themselves. (Storybook held at Vth grade MPPS NTR Colony Kuppam)
Videography: Children briefly learned about how to handle video camera with different video angles. They also ideated and wrote stories and began the process of making a storyboard and shoot videos in their community. Students find out mistakes and they reshoot video that is needed. Later they imported into Final Cut Pro for editing the video according to script and added Music, Text and Special Effects to the video. (Videography held at Vth grade MPPS Garigachinnepalli)
Dhwani: Dhwani is all about stories that every child has; revolving around his/her surroundings. We believe that all their stories deserve a chance to be told and we aim to achieve the same through the medium of films that are made by them, every step of the way. All stories are curated and uploaded on an online portal, for the world to see what our children are capable of doing.

We reached over 324 children, a total of 10 films were made.
Quantitative Exposure Data of Operational Vasantha for the period of January 2019 to March 2019 is 6,796 exposures and reached 324 children in 9 Operational Vasantha centres.
Jigynasa: Kalakootami Team members participated and exhibited the KalaKootami works a creative celebration of convergence of our Media Arts, and Library programs activities in fair. Jigynasa fair was conducted from 11/01/2019 to 12/01/2019 and around 1,000 students happily participated in every activity corners. Activities like stop motion, flipbook & Story with images etc. were conducted.
KalaKootami: KalaKootami has come a long way since its inception. Evolving and growing through each edition, the fair has travelled greater distances and reached newer corners of India, spreading joy and wonder of arts, media, and creativity. Gurgaon, our final destination for the year, was bedecked with colourful impressions, vibrant walls, and echoes of laughter and excitement.
Our art and creativity fair has always aimed at creating a unique and interactive platform for government school students to display their innovative works in the field of media, arts, photography, films, and library. Every year, thousands of children participate to create and share ideas with their peers, teachers, and visitors, in turn gaining an unforgettable experience.
The four-day fair reached out to 1,326 children, 675 Girls, 651 Boys, 60 Young Instructors, and a total of 1,604 Exposures. In all 8 schools participated.
Organized with support from Sapient under our community media program, Dhwani is the latest edition of KalaKootami which was yet again a creative celebration of the convergence of our Media Arts, Arts and Library programs. Hosted for the second time in Gurgaon, New Delhi from 13th to 16th of February 2019. This edition of the fair witnessed participation from over 1,326 children from Government High Schools, Gurgaon, Haryana.
