Expanding Program to Include Reentry Participants

By Joseph Ceasar | Executive Director

To all of our generous donors,

The last two years have been challenging for all of us. As we ended 2020, we all thought that the worst was over with the COVID-19 pandemic, but we were very wrong with that assumption. The Delta variant of 2021 has reminded us of how sensitive the topic is and how maintaining caution in how we operate is essential.

We have an overwhelming number of justice-involved community members throughout our community who have been impacted by Covid-19. They were laid off at a disproportionately higher rate than those who were never justice-involved. The needs of this demographic are quite different than our other clients. In some cases, they are lacking soft skills such as time management and anger management. With the help of generous donors, we have been able to launch a program that will provide them with these skills and many more as we encourage them to make themselves more desirable in the workplace by attaining industry-recognized certifications. To date, we have launched this program with our first cohort consisting of four participants. The next cohort (beginning in January) will consist of ten participants.  Each participant is assigned an individual employment coach and a financial coach as they progress.

We're very excited about what this program will mean for our participants. We have established several employer partners who are willing to give our participants at least an interview and pay them a livable wage for our area. Stay tuned as we continue to increase awareness of financial literacy to those who have the most barriers to overcome!
