Health Education - very Important

By William Logai Ochieng | Eexecutive director

HIV & AIDs Educational workshop
HIV & AIDs Educational workshop

Thanks for your generous gift to Prevent HIV-AID through Awareness in South Sudan.

Only months ago an alleged coup in South Sudan has left hundreds dead, and many in the region concerned for what the coming months may bring for the world's youngest country.

Public health education is a vital step to Omilling rural community understanding health issues.  Since we started our HIV awareness campaign the outcomes have been really good for the community. We have four local volunteers to visit each Sunday to give a one hour talk followed by 30 minutes question and answer season. This has been a very successful initiative, and for a small investment of time, there has been an increase of 200 people between January  and March tested for HIV.

This shall be followed by two hardest educational HIV workshops to produce maximum level of awareness at a village level with each gathering lasting 6 hours twice a month. Two HIV victims shall talk on how to avoid catching it, traditional leaders shall talk why is important to be faithful to your partner, and a Health-worker from Magwi Primary Healthcare shall talk how to live with HIV. At the end of the workshop the villagers will sing a song saying HIV is an enemy to live, HIV victims shall cry because their best lives have been contaminated by the virus - this is meant to create high level of HIV -AID awareness.

In the next quarter a new field update will be posted, so that you get to know what your contribution is helping to impact from the ground in Omilling.
