The HIV awareness campaign progress report two

By Ms.Linda Acen | Projects director

The HIV awareness campaign started well, and we purchased a Honda XL 120 for field work. Our volunteers are visiting local gathering places on Sundays where they give a one hour talk followed by a 30 minute question and answer session. This has been very successful programme but the progress has been too slow due TO lack of fuel and funding. The number of people who are attending our meeting has increased to 300, and a lot of people are willing to be tested for HIV for testing. To show what an achievement that is, the ONURA village, which has a much a bigger population, 328 people are in the same period willing to go for testing. Alice, a current volunteer is putting together a really good health guide with pictures drawn by a local artist and simple messages in the local language, OnuraLang.

These guides are proving to be far more effective than the boring and wordy Big NGOs guides. Quote from a beneficiary: I have not heard of HIV/AID before but with the help of HopeOfiriha I now know that there is HIV/AID – a killer disease. I will share my life with my husband only and teach my children not to get into a relationship until they know that their partners are not HIV/AID carriers.

Once again we would like to take this opportunity to thank our supporters that without their contributions we could not come this far. We look forward in working with you until this project has achieved its goal. We will be posting report from the field in every three months.

Thanks!
