In our last report we told you about Anna, a mom from St. Petersburg suffering from lymphoma. Thanks to your support, we were able to pay for her travel expenses in Belgium where she is participating in a clinical trial. Anna is sending her sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped!
Recently, we were contacted by another patient who needs to access treatment outside of his home country. Alexander is 24. He is a direct descendant of great Ukrainian poet and artist, Taras Shevchenko. Two years ago, he graduated from Transportation University, but before he could find a job he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, cancer of lymphoid tissue. Generally, this is a type of cancer that has good prognosis. However, in Alexander's case the disease persisted. Even after initial 8 cycles of chemotherapy, additional four cycles at Bone Marrow Transplant center, and a transplantation of Alexander's own stem cells, lymphoma came back.
At this point, his only hope for recovery rests on finding a donor for another stem cell transplant that can only be done abroad, as Ukrainian doctors do not perform these more complex types of transplants. But before that, he also needs to achieve remission with help of newer drugs that are not available in Ukraine.
Alexander is raising funds to continue his treatment abroad where he can access latest cancer treatments. His doctors believe he has very good chances of beating the disease, but he needs our help to make it a reality. Alexander is looking into possibility of travel to such countries as Italy or Spain to access clinical trials and receive medications for free, but he still needs help with travel and lodging expenses.
