Help your donation get a raise!

Alikhan with his dad
During 2014 our project helped 7 cancer patients from the former Soviet Union with the costs of lodging when they traveled abroad for access to quality care. The patients varied from a two-year-old boy from Russia to a 60-year-old grandmother from Uzbekistan. Uniting all of them was the cancer diagnosis and the lack of adequate treatment options at home. Thanks to supporters like you they were able to travel abroad and receive appropriate therapy.
So far this year we have been able to support another young patient, Alikhan from Kazakhstan. This 4-year-old has already been fighting leukemia for over a year. The disease retreated after the initial treatment, but remission was short, and he relapsed after just four months. He now needs to undergo transplantation of bone marrow from one of his parents, and this procedure is not done in his home country. Although the government of Kazakhstan paid a portion of the costs of treatment, it does not help with the travel and lodging expenses. Our support covered a month of lodging for the family, and they are very grateful for the reduced financial burden.
Woud you like to help more patients like Alikhan? Then donate today, March 18th, during GlobalGiving Bonus Day! Each donation to our project (up to $1,000 per donor) will be able to get a 30% bonus - but only while the funds last. So donate early - the matching starts at 8 am CDT.
Thank you for staying with us!

Thanks for bringing joy to our patients!

Danylo
We are happy to report that we were able to help seven cancer patients with the costs of lodging this year. These patients had to travel far away from home - to Germany, USA, Israel and Singapore. Your donation made a lot of difference for these patients and I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your generosity and compassion.
Unfortunately, continuing instability, corruption and low government spending on healthcare in the fomer Soviet Union still drives many cancer patients to seek help abroad where qualified medical care is readily available. Recently, we received a request for help from the parents of a ten-year-old Danylo who was diagnosed with a brain tumor 4 years ago. He had two surgeries to remove it in his native Ukraine. Then, at a consultation in Israel, it was discovered that the tumor was not as aggressive, as Ukrainian doctors thought, and Danylo only needed regular evaluations for the last 18 months. However, during the latest round of tests in Israel, a continued growth of the tumor was detected. Now Danylo needs to travel to Israel as soon as possible to have more treatment, and his parents are scrambling to raise funds.
With the help of supporters like you we will make sure to help Danylo and other patients needing access to adequate medical care. Thanks again for staying with us! Wishing you joy, peace and prosperity in the New Year!

Help Maxim Travel for Treatment
By Marina Ouano | Project Leader
Our new little patient is a 2.5 year-old Maxim from an eastern Siberian city of Ulan-Ude. Maxim was born premature, but he quickly caught up with his peers and was developing well. But then, at 18 months of age, Maxim's parents noticed an odd glow in his left eye. After the tests, retinoblastoma (retina cancer) was discovered in both of his eyes. Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save Maxim's left eye and it was removed surgically. The doctors also predicted that Maxim's right eye would lose vision after undergoing laser therapy.
Maxim's parents decided to get a second opinion and traveled to Memorial Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. There Maxim received chemotherapy that shattered the tumor and laser therapy on remaining small lesions. The therapy was successful and Maxim is now recovering. He will also need to be followed closely for the next few years to ensure any recurrence is discovered and treated promptly.
Please help us support Maxim's family with their travel expenses to New York City! During upcoming Bonus Day on Wednesday, October 15th, your donation will be matched 30%. Donate early - starting at 9 am EDT - to make sure your donation makes even more difference.
Thank you for your support!
