Our latest patient who needs help with accessing treatment away from home is 5-year-old Yaroslav from Ukraine. Yaroslav got sick almost two years ago, soon after he started daycare. At first, it was pains in his legs, then he developed fever, and his red blood cell count plummeted. In December 2014 Yaroslav was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, rare and aggressive cancer that mostly affects children. The treatment was difficult and long - it lasted 1.5 years and included chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, stem cell transplant and radiation therapy. It was followed by maintenance therapy that Yaroslav could receive at home. His family was happy to have him back at last.
Suddenly, in the last days of 2016, Yaroslav began feeling unwell again. Unfortunately, the blood tests confirmed early relapse of the disease. The treatment started all over again - and by now Yaroslav already completed several cycles of chemotherapy. In his native Ukraine, this is the only treatment option and it can only delay the disease progression for a short time. Yaroslav's family searched the world for other approaches to treatment and found a hospital in India where modern therapy is available at a lower price. The family is hoping to travel to India soon, once they are able to afford the trip.
We are looking forward to helping Yaroslav's family and hope that we can count on your support. Thank you for letting patients like Yaroslav get a second chance.
