Now that we are wrapping up the year, we are looking back to see what we had accomplished. During 2017 this project had helped five cancer patients with travel or lodging costs. Overall, we saw a decrease in the number of patients from the former Soviet Union that requested help with traveling abroad for treatment. As medical costs continue to rise, it becomes more difficult for foreign cancer patients to raise sufficient funds to afford the trip. However, in some circumstances, such as participation in sponsored clinical trials, access to life-saing treatments may still be within reach.
Recently, we received a request for help from Nikita, a young man who suffers from recurrent epithelioid soft tissue sarcoma. For the last several months he has been researching clinical trials. As a result, he ended up with three options for my future treatment: two of them would extend Nikita's life, while the last medicine, Tazemetostat, has a potential of halting division of cancer cells. Cincinnati Cancer Center in Ohio started recruitment for the clinical trial in October and added Nikita to the participant list. He received the invitation to come to the Center in January. Having examined Nikita's documents, they do not see any medical obstacles for his participation in the linical trial. The only obstacle is the cost of the treatment and travel. Nikita is working hard to raise funds and is optimistic about his trip. It is a chance for him to finally find cure. We are hoping to support Nikita with the cost of airfare and lodging and will appreciate your support.
Thank you so much for your support for our project.
We wish you a great New Year ahead filled with joy and happiness!
