Build a School Gym and Community Hall in Hungary

Dear Supporters,

As you may see from the picture, our gym hall construction is progressing. The roof in now closed, ready for the tiles.

Inside, engineering work is being done. Outside, walls are being insulated. That is, "work in progress".

A week ago, we invited a small group for a short tour of the gym. I have to tell you, they were impressed in deed!

I hope that by the time comes for the next report, we can show you something really amazing.

Three months has passed since our last report, so it is time to inform you about our progress.

Well we are having a severe winter here in Hungary, so not much progress has happened, we are waiting for better weather with finishing the roof.

Nevertheless we send you a photo about the progress of the roof building, it already provides a hint how beautiful it is going to be. This was shot on one of those rare days when the work could be done.

Captain Winter has won a battle - but it has certainly not won the war :)

Dear Patrons!

We had a very busy autumn period. Building perations continued and now we are almost ready with the structure of the gym building - all walls and concrete structures are in place. Next comes the roof and engineering work - depending on the weather as winter is nearing. As for what comes next we are committed to environmentally friendly solutions and aim to use methods to reduce the energy impact our building will have.

As Christmas approaches we can undrestand more easily why children are so happy when they receive a beautiful present they wish so much.

It is the same with our school. We wish so much that we can make the lifes our our children happier and healthier. And we want to give them the present of a fantastic gym hall.

You gave money to our cause you so you became part of this miracle. It is good to know that there are people who care about important causes. Like you.

Good news that your contribution can go even further now. Thanks to GlobalGiving's Year End campaign, new recurring donations will get a 100% match till 31 December, so your money counts more.

Well, we still need to go outside and rent some space for physical education, but something promising is definitely happening!

While children were on summer holiday, construction work of our much needed school gym has been going on intensively. From early June to early September structure construction proceeded and one can now see as walls and columns are growing from the ground.

If you are good at visual imagination, you can already envisage as girls from our basketball team play their first match in the gym :)

But that is still some months away, and till then we adults need to proceed with securing the finances for continuing the construction. During the summer months we have received tremendous support from the families of the school in the form of smaller and larger loans, and we are proceeding with our bank with negotiating for a larger loan for financing the rest of the construction.

However, our calculations show that the end of September is going to be a critical time for the cashflow financing. We will need every dollar we can get in order to be able to finance the upcoming costs.

Your earlier generous donation has already helped our project to proceed, for which our whole community is grateful to you. (You may even count the number of bricks your donation allowed us to buy :)

Now I invite you to donate again to help us overcome the critical September and I hope I will be able to serve you with great news in our next report!

Dear supporters,

Thank you so much for the incredible start of our school gym building project!

We graduated in GlobalGiving! With your help we collected $7,000+ from more than 140+ donors during the one month accelerator period! We also have 4 recurring donors, who donate every month!

We are now a permanent member of the GlobalGiving community and can continue collecting funds for our long-needed school gym.

We have fantastic news! We started the construction in April 2017!

On 4 May, the foundation stone laying ceremony took place at the construction site. Our whole school participated at the event with numerous guests - donors, the mayor and other representatives of Solymár (our home town), the secretary general of the Hungarian Basketball Federation and the managing directors of all schools in Solymár. More than 500 people celebrated this incredible start.

It was so touching to hear our children, Márk, Boglárka and others reading their own poems they had written about the gym (more than 30 children wrote short poems - we placed all of them into a time capsule next to the foundation stone). It was moving to hear our class 4 singing and playing the song they had composed especially for this event. It was uplifting to listen to our basketball team acclaiming their slogan "Solymári sólymok!" (meaning "falcons of Solymár") above the foundation stone. It was encouraging to see those many colourful balloons flying high into the air at the end of the ceremony which represented our hopes and efforts.

Indeed we had a wonderful start!

And now it is time again for us adults to continue work and realize the dreams of our children.

The construction continues and we also continue collecting donations. Our next campaign will be before and on 12 July 2017, when all donations under $1,000 will be matched at +50% on GG Rewards Bonus Day.
