The preparation of Girls Leading Our World (GLOW) Leadership Academy 2018 has started actively. In October 2017, 18 new staff members were selected among more than 40 applicants all of whom are GLOW Leadership Academy alumnae. The selected girls are 16 to 18 years old and come from 9 different towns and cities around the country. They will be responsible for leading group activities for this year’s campers as well supporting the overall organization of the Academy.
In the months to come the new staff members will undergo an intensive training both, online and in person, focused on group moderation, techniques for successful teamwork, working with children etc.
With the help of your generous donation for Girls Leading Our World (GLOW) Leadership Academy 2017, 60 girls from 22 different communities from all over Bulgaria started yesterday their life-changing experience! With the support of the 23 peer trainers they will work on improving their self-esteem and leadership skills in a variety of interactive sessions and simulations.
Beside our main interactive sessions dedicated to leadership, teamwork, effective communication, decision making, public speaking, online image and gender roles, a special focus is posed on healthy living, physical activities such as yoga, Pilates and dancing and eating disorders prevention. All participants will take part in a specially organized by GLOW social campaign in Veliko Tarnovo on celebrating the 10th Anniversary of joining the European Union.
A large national initiative, including social campaigns in 7 communities all over Bulgaria was planned and organized by the 2017 GLOW Leadership Academy trainers. The initiative took place in April and May and was dedicated to encouraging the reading of books among the young people.
The campaigns took place in Varna, Kavarna, Vratsa, Targovishte, Lovech, Stara Zagora and Sofia and involved more than 800 people of all ages and social background.
Here is what Maya, one of GLOW's young trainers, shared about her campaign in Targovishte:
"In my opinion, the social campaign was very successful, as it managed to attract people of all ages who are interested in reading. They were delighted to share their favourite books with others and to choose another one which had sparked their interest. Not only did people exchange books, but they were also given quotations from various books, written on separate sheets of paper. Moreover, we had prepared in advance treats for the people who visited the book exchange."

At the beginning of February the new staff members of GLOW Leadership Academy underwent an intensive 3-day training that focused on group moderation, techniques for successful teamwork, working with children etc.The training was conducted by experienced Alumnae of the Academy. The new staff members will also take a number of online trainings and workshops over the next f months in order to improve their presentation skills and knowledge of the topics discussed during the Academy.
The staff members were divided in pairs - one Counselor and one Junior Counselor for each group of campers - which will allow them to help and complement each other during the Academy and also practice their teamwork skills.
To better respond to the needs of the Bulgarian girls, the team started updating the program for GLOW Leadership Academy 2017 introducing new sessions and themes elaborated by the trainers themselves.
