Bright minds, brighter futures

Greetings from Kathy’s kindergarten mayuge, Uganda. Much love and appreciation to you for walking this journey with us.

We have 24 amazing babies that joined us this year and we are delighted that they are steadily transitioning into the learning environment. The first half of their journey this term has been really amazing. We are proud to be a part of the first school years of the little ones, and we are thankful to you for making this possible. We would like to share with you about one of our kindergarten children who joined us in this academic year 2023.

Meet Elijah, a 3-year-old pupil at Kathy’s kindergarten who joined us for term 1 in February. He is a very lovely boy who loves learning, sharing with friends, and so curious with lots of amazing questions and stories. It is so beautiful to learn that his parents brought him to us because of the beautiful experience that his elder brother got while he was with us at Kathy’s kindergarten.

We are super proud because the children who go through Kathy’s Kindergarten excel wherever they go and shine bright like stars. The heartwarming testimonies we receive from parents and the community make us move with our heads held high. For instance,

A parent narrated “There is no better school my boy could have joined in mayuge at his age other than Kathy’s kindergarten. The care he receives from the teachers is amazing. Thank you so much for the great work you are doing.”

“Education is not the filing of a pail but the lighting of a fire” We are happy to be the fire lighters to these children. We shall continue working to see that every child that goes through Kathy’s walks away with a mark that can never be erased from both our hearts and theirs. We know that one book, one pencil, one child and one teacher can change the world.

Together we can create this change, bright minds, brighter futures and make these little ones better citizens of tomorrow.

Changing levels

Celebrating victory

What a great Milestone it is to see a child progress from one level to another. On 18^th November, it was exciting for teachers, parents, and non-teaching staff at Kathy’s kindergarten to see their babies moving from the top class to the next stage of their lives. With such a strong background from Kathy’s kindergarten, we are confident that these children will shine at the next level.

15 children from top class graduated and we are proud to say that it is your generous support has made it possible for them to study at Kathy’s kindergarten for the first three school years of their lives. Parents are also extremely thankful as they recognize the transformation their children have undergone at Kathy kindergarten and their wish is that the school expands to lower primary as there’s no such a school as this in mayuge. The testimonies captured below are evidence of how dear the school is to the parents and children.

“Kathy’s kindergarten has nurtured my daughter right from when she was three years old. She can now not only read and write but also express herself in English. I love who she is now, and I am confident that primary one will be a walkover for her. I thank the school management, her teachers, and her caretakers for prioritizing her well-being throughout her years in the school. I am sure she will miss everything at Kathy’s,” A dad emotionally narrated.

“When my son left Kathy’s kindergarten after top class in 2019, he was able to excel in primary one, thanks to the quality education he received at the center. I am also proud of the progress my girl-in-baby class has made since she joined. Thank you for changing the face of early years’ education in Mayuge,” narrated another parent.

Following the top class send-off ceremony, Term three closed on 25^th November and all children are now on holiday. Our children in baby and middle class registered good performance and have progressed to middle and top class respectively.

Thank you for loving Kathy’s kindergarten and being a part of this journey of providing quality early years education to vulnerable children in mayuge. Your support means a lot and it makes such a big difference.

Taking small steps towards a bright future

At Kathy’s Kindergarten, we take pride in being the number one provider of quality early years education for the underprivileged children in rural Mayuge. We are happy that the academic year is running as planned as opposed to the previous year. It is exciting that the small steps we take each day in class are continuously laying a firm foundation for the future of the little ones.

We started our second term on 9^th of May, and all teachers are committed to ensuring that all children are progressing well and at the same pace. Most of our children were healthy throughout the term, except a few who fell sick, but received medical attention and resumed studying. Class attendance and exams ended on 29^th July, whereas assessment forms are to be handed over to parents on 4^th August for the official holiday break.

According to Jenipher Akullu the school lead teacher, the pupils progressed well in terms of performance, based on the assessments done throughout the term.

Feedback obtained from parents revealed that they are satisfied with the services offered and that the children are happy to be at Kathy’s kindergarten which gives the team a sense of fulfilment and motivation to work harder to ensure that our little stars continue to excel in academics and other spectrums. Some of the parents’ testimonies are written below:

“My boys are always excited to come to school, thank you for taking such good care of them,” said a mother to the twins at Kathy’s kindergarten.

Challenges

The skyrocketing fuel and food prices negatively affected the smooth running of the school. Management responded by adjusting the school menu to cheaper but nutritious options to allow the available resources to cover a longer time.

Next

Term 3 which closes the academic year will begin on 5^th September 2022, and we look forward to continuing to contribute to their success.
