What is going well?

By Medha Sharma | President and CEO

What went well in the last 6 months??

  • The girls have been able to critically analyze the social issues, identify what is not going on right and raise appropriate questions. Their leadership in the community have become more visible and realized.
  • Their ability to develop and share stories has been enhanced, especially in context of earthquake related experiences.
  • The support and interest of the community towards the activities of the girls has risen. The girls have been able to show stronger presence in the society.

 What has been achieved?

8 blog posts, 1 radio program,

3 Community meetings

2 Community transit walks

4 Workshop on accountability and leadership

2 Discussions facilitated by social mobilizer on social issues

What were the challenges?

  • Dealing with adolescent girls itself is challenging because of the sensitivity of their age and their higher ambitions and expectations in life.
  • Coming from an earthquake affected area of a rural village in Nepal, the girls have limited exposure that is curbing them from coming up and speaking out in the society.
  • In the absence of community leaders staying in the village, it is challenging to connect the girls with the community leader.

What could have been done better?

  • The remote mentoring could have been made stronger by building the capacity of the social mobilizer that would strengthen the sustainability of the program.
  • The journalism aspect of the program was over ambitious, and could not yield the result as expected. The program needs more time to achieve that.
  • The quality of the stories/articles that the girls have raised up and so are now suitable for publishing in newspapers and children magazines. But they could not be published in national newspaper. The effort to raise the quality of the articles to make it publishable in the national newspaper is ongoing.
