A 9 months mentorship program aimed at unleashing the social leadership of 15 adolescent girls of earthquake affected area of Nepal. This project will reach out to the girls in an individually tailored, empowering them with diverse skills. Nuwakot is a district with one of the highest destruction caused by earthquake in 2015, labor migration among adults and highest rate of girls trafficking. Hence, the need to enhance the leadership of adolescent girls is not only necessary but imperative.
Nuwakot was hard hit with the 2015 earthquake, that damaged not only homes and lives but also the confidence of the survivors. Nuwakot has highest rate of international migration among adults, meaning most of the parents are away from home and adolescent girls need to be the community leaders. However, Nuwakot is also the district with highest rate of girls trafficking. After the earthquake, the interest and capacity of parents to address the need of the girls has diminished
This project will provide continuous mentorship for 9 months to these girls, by tailoring the skills needed to them. This project will provide them academic support in difficult subjects like Science, Maths and English; co-curricular support like computer and Taekwondo, leadership skills, sexual and reproductive health, entrepreneurship building, etc. that will make them the community leaders. The girls will in turn cascade the learning to other adolescent girls in the community.
15 adolescent girls will emerge as leaders in the community. Nuwakot will have a pool of adolescent girls as leaders.
